This may push me to drop my satellite TV contract

Bought the Roku 3 about a month ago and am more than pleased with it. It has a USB port so we sometimes connect our portable hard drive to it to play movies, a handy feature. I love being able to plug the earphones into the remote so I watch TV at night while my wife sleeps - she doesn't hear a thing and for me the sound is great. Am still figuring out all the channels and the ins and outs of this Roku, and maybe eventually it may help me cancel my DirecTV; but right now it complements DVDs and DirecTV. I am more than happy I bought this device.

I love my Roku3

I've had Roku's for several years now and if there is a Roku4 in the wings I'll be first in line to get that little dandy. As of now I can't visualize being without my Roku3, a boon for all TV watchers. It's enjoyable just to surf the myriad number of channels eyeing the wonderful programs available.

the things you can do takes you far away from the Cable only world, i'm going to by one for all my TV's and give back the cable box.

Roku is all you really need for home entertainment

I honestly love my Roku 3. It's literally a one-stop-shop for all my family's online streaming needs, and offers several other very useful (though little-known) features. Despite its small size, it's an extremely robust platform.
I purchased it from a major retailer about six months ago. The store offered several shelves packed with competing products from other companies (these devices more or less amounted to Roku copycats and Blu-ray players with built-in streaming services like Netflix). Fortunately, my smartphone was getting a good 4G signal at the time, and I was able to find reviews online for these similar products. The verdict? Every device I researched had received predominantly negative or (at best) mixed reviews (I even saw one person commenting that he wished he'd bought the Roku instead lol).
So naturally I went with the Roku 3. First impressions count, and I'll mention that the retail packaging was informative yet simple, and far more aesthetically pleasing than anything else on the shelf.
Unlike every other product I researched, Roku offers a FULL lineup of streaming services, which are organized into "channels" which you can add to your Roku home screen - including (but not limited to) Netflix, Hulu, HBOGO, YouTube, Amazon Prime, and the list goes on and on. In addition to these popular examples, there are a vast number of other Roku "channels" which are not only more interest-oriented, but they also offer totally free content (for example, there's a Roku channel devoted entirely to conspiracy theories, and another where you can watch kittens or puppies play 24/7 via live streaming webcam... seriously!).
I also really like the fact that there is a Roku app which lets you use your smartphone as the remote control for your Roku. You can even search for a specific show from inside the app, while a different show is still playing on the TV.
Speaking of search, the Roku's search functionality is quite useful. If you start a search from the Roku home screen, the Roku will search through every channel you've added, and give you a list of channels which offer what you searched for, as well as the number of episodes offered by that channel (for example, Netflix and Hulu might both offer the British TV show called "Shameless" but Netflix could offer more episodes or seasons than Hulu, thus you are given a choice as to which "channel" you prefer for watching a given program).
One thing my 7-year-old loves about the Roku is its compatibility with the YouTube app for smartphones and tablets. As long as the Roku and smart device are connected to the same WiFi network, a unique "screencast" icon will appear at the top of any YouTube videos playing on the phone or tablet, and tapping that button will instantly "cast" the video to your TV screen. Pretty cool.
Lastly I'll mention a feature I just recently discovered. If you have pictures, videos, or music on your smartphone (e.g. pictures of your kids, or a video of your wedding, or music files), you can use the Roku app to stream that content directly to the Roku, which means it will play on your TV.
All around, I highly recommend Roku to anyone who desires to "consolidate" all their entertainment onto a single, powerful device.

Too commercialized

It's the best streaming device out there

I love the ear jack. Remote fits in any size hand and is easy to operate. Purple
cord makes it easy to spot when you need to locate it. I do not play games, so I cannot review that portion of the device.
