Getting Acquainted

We are still getting acquainted with our new Roku 3; not sure if my husband will be familiar with it. It took him years to figure out the older Roku which we moved to another tv.

The problem with buffering data for HD channels. May be encrease memory for buffering.

I like it so much I bought a second one for the bedroom (relegated the Roku 2 to the spare bedroom :-). I get more use out of it than I do my AppleTV.

Roku 3 - Nice improvement

I replaced a first generation Roku with the Roku 3 just yesterday. Setup was very easy. The smaller profile is appreciated as is the fact that it puts out much less heat (thus consuming less electricity). The stream loads much more quickly than the first generation.
Expected the picture to be excellent out of the gate, but it was not, and this was disappointing. It takes a few minutes for the picture to improve to excellent quality. Called the support line to discuss this and they were extremely helpful. Was told that the Roku 3 has adaptive buffering, which causes this effect. In the older model, I notice it starts streaming at a high level and adapts down, showing you what's happening with a status bar on the quality. The Roku 3 apparently starts on lower quality and adapts upward.
Included headset makes listening at night much easier on others in the home. I really like the application for iOS. Can control the device without the remote !

I upgraded from the top Roku 2 model to this one because of the added features and I have been very satisfied with the content it has provided.
