my family bought roku when we were attempting to get rid of cable tv. we ended up keeping basic cable to receive local tv stations (news and football),antennae just didn't cut it- but decreased our cable package size and cost. the roku is really easy to install and the remote is simple to use. we ended up adding Netflix(additional monthly fee) for movies and shows,but there is nice selection of free channels/shows to watch. plan on future purchase of 2nd roku for upstairs tv.

Great ... When it Works

Worked great for about 5 months and then I kept getting booted out of Netflix and Amazon. I looked everywhere online for a solution and all I found were others who complained about the same thing. Solutions? Had a lot of techno talk that made absolutely no sense to me. I shouldn't have to have a Ph.D in electronics and code in order to get my Roku 3 to work. I went back to my Roku 2 which I've never had a problem with.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My daughter gave this to me for mothers day last year. I LOVE IT! It is so nice to have every movie/music option in one place, and is so easy to use! Movies, TV episodes, music, you name it I bet you can find it!!!

I upgraded from a 2 to 3 and really like it. I find the channel selection endless and can always find something new and different to suit my interests. It was nice to say goodbye to my cable bill about 2 years ago. Should have done Roku sooner!

Roku 2 not as advertised

This is not the plug & play item advertised. I had to call Support and my ISP to get it connected to the internet. (Both were great. THEY had to do things on their end. It wasn't me.) I haven't yet found anything I can watch without a buffering problem, though I passed the speed test prior to purchase. There are channels on "My Channels" that I didn't put there. Removed them. Then, there are channels I added through the website that don't appear on the device under "My Channels." If things don't start getting better, I'm going to try to return it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought my first one about a year ago and since then have bought 2 more. I highly recommend it. The interface is easy to use and responds quickly. New channels are being added all the time with more content. Great for listening to music too.

I love mine. I have Hulu Plus through it. Many other options available such as Netflix and Youtube. I would get rid of cable right now if it were up to me, but my husband is addicted to sports. No live sports on line, unfortunately! Even though we have cable, the is still often nothing on worth watching. Currently we are re-watching every episode of Cheers. Also watching episodes of all Star Trek shows, through HuluPlus.
