Love my Roku

I have an older version of a Roku and the Roku 3 is a better version that seems to hold internet wireless connection more reliably than my other Roku. If you are shopping for a Roku I would go with this one.

Love the product overall. Dropped cable and fantastic alternative to cable. The channels with commercials are very brief commercials which I really like. I would normally give this product 5 stars, however, I have found some commercials so repeditive that in watching 3 shows or movies, that I have been forced to view the same commercials 12 times or more. It reached a point I could not finish the last movie because the same commercials became sickening. Also, extremely lacking in ability to stream live news. It boasts being able to stream, but all I have found are certain news shows in certain time slots to stream.

Selection is a bit limited and the continual interruptions to the streaming is really annoying.

We bought this player a month ago because we were have streaming problems with our samsung products. My husband has the mlb channel and we could not get it to play and our streaming of netflix always has problems,with this roku player it has eliminated all our streaming problems.WE LOVE THIS ROKU!

Turns every television it is hooked to into a smart TV. Nothing beats the sheer volume of channels available on the Roku. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu--it's all here. The universal search function saves you from endlessly opening and closing apps looking for that one specific title: Type the name of what you're looking for, and the Roku tells you where you can find it.
My one-star knockdown has to do with local media streaming by way of channels like Plex or MediaBrowser3. Streaming large files does not always work; I've found that any file encoded with a bitrate much higher than 8000kbs will choke my Roku--whether wired or wireless. For this reason, the home theater PC has continued residence in our television stand--even though watching movies streamed from our server and serving as a DVR are its only functions at the moment. If there was a Roku app available for HTPC, I'd never lose my smile.
But as it stands, the Roku does what it was designed to do. Vudu? No problem. Netflix? Flawless. Digging around on YouTube for that certain clip? Go for it. The Roku handles it all without labor.

amazingly fast and simple to operate

I purchased this about 2 months ago and I am pleased to say that I recommend it wholeheartedly. I bought the Roku 3 and have really enjoyed how fast the unit works off the internet, much better than my Samsung television does. I probably watch movies and listen to music the most, and the fidelity and the high resolution is impressive. Also very easy to setup. I recommend for anyone thinking about doing away with cable or satellite.
