So easy to navigate!

I previously watched Netflix via my blue ray player but when I added Amazon Prime I had to connect my laptop to my TV. So I decided to get a Roku player. Not only did it offer many more services, the format was much more appealing and it was a cinch to navigate. It's also much faster than my blue ray player was. The only thing I would like to see added is Cinemanow. For that I have to use my blue ray player.

Great Product, So So Content

I have had my Roku 3 for about a month. The device and app are superb, but the content is not an obvious replacement for my cable service. My purpose for purchase was to cut the cable cord. I cannot do it though. The news service is lacking.
Pros:
The device just works. It never looses wifi connection (where as my wifi-enabled TV does sometimes) so Roku got connectivity right!. The UI is easy to navigate. The remote is simple. I like the mute function when earbuds are plugged in.
I really like the integration of of YouTube on my iPad/iPhone and Roku. I can find content on iPad, play it on Roku! Nice. Better than Google Chrome, IMHO. My tech-savvy friend's Google Chrome failed to play (to be fair, I have no idea why). Roku never missed. I found a lot of interesting not-so-mainstream content which I was hoping to find!!!
Cons:
Video: Most of the content, including the HD stuff, is not as sharp as the cable HD channels, (using the same TV). It was a little foggy to watch for the first 2 weeks. Now, I'm used to it. :( Please push your content providers to give higher resolution options.
Content: Lots of channels to chose from but the name brand channels you get on cable generally only have snippets on Roku. This is the most disappointing point. I want more streaming live content, specifically news. Sky News is as close as I have found. I want equivalent real-time, streaming news like I get on cable then I can cut the cord. (I want CNN but that stands for Cable News Net so I guess Ted ain't gonna let that happen.) Now, that I have found more interesting content I tend to spend even more time in front of the TV. :) :(

Improvement over the Roku 2

I like that you can do both Ethernet cable or wireless and that it has a bit of memory for streaming. Doesn't stutter during a program as much as the older Roku 2 did, but still does with some programs. Since some of the Channels which are the mainstream ones like ABC and FOX have decided to not let you watch their content unless you have a cable or satellite subscription which defeats the reason why you would buy a Roku in the first place. Some will let you watch clips. The main reason to get Roku is if you subscribe to Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus or Netflix.

I heard someone praising their Roku 3. I had previously bought another streaming device but it was a big disappointment, I could not get through even a 30 minute program without several starts and stops and sometimes it would stop working altogether. So, I decided to try the Roku 3. The setup was easy and from the very first time I have been able to actually use my Netflix streaming service. Now I can enjoy TV shows and Movies uninterrupted.

Some issues...

I bought the Roku 3 specifically for receiving MLB.TV and sometimes I wish I hadn't. It continually blanks out and says "loading". Very annoying. I do not have this problem with my tablet, pc or smartphone which use the same wireless connection. Other than that I do like the features the Roku 3 has to offer.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Overall, a good device. Have had a few intermittent drop offs where I had to reboot but once in, it works fine. It does use a lot of battery, though and I haven't figured out why it does that.

We now have two of these, one in our house in NH and another in our house in Maine--Since we are unable to get either satellite or cable services in Maine, the Roku 3 is our primary source of electronic entertainment and it is terrific!
