I've had the Roku for 6 months now and have been extremely pleased with not only it's performance but of the options available for streaming different content from multiple suppliers.

This device has not worked properly since 1 month after I purchased it. The device will shut down and restart in the middle of usage or movie. The device does not have a turn off feature. I am looking to invest into a chromecast.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have wanted to ditch dish for a long time, and Roku makes that possible. To set up Roku is a breeze, and works like a dream.

Easy to Use

I bought two Roku 3 units about 6 months ago and use them every day. My family has now stopped watching TV shows on cable and instead watches streaming content exclusively. If the cable company didn't have a monopoly on broadcasts of the local Major League Baseball team, I would put up a rooftop antenna and cancel the cable TV package today! We like Roku that much.
The Roku 3 is so easy to use. Simple controls on the remote mimic a web browser (back, home, etc). Installation is also very easy. Just keep a pen and paper handy to write down passwords and other user info when you start subscribing to some of the channels. You will also be going back and forth between the TV and your computer/tablet to complete various sign-ups. I have one Roku 3 plugged into a network cable from our router and the other Roku uses a wireless connection. The wired connection always delivers full HD with very little buffering. The Roku on wireless is on the other side of my house from the router but usually delivers HD anyway. Just a little more buffering from time to time.
We were streaming Netflix through a couple of Blu-Ray players but the Netflix "channel" on Roku 3 is much more user-friendly. Roku also offers a lot of channels you don't get through a smart Blu-Ray or game console and most of them free. The other channels have varying levels of user-friendliness. None of them are quite as good as Netflix but most are still easy to use.
My only complaint is that both of my Roku 3 units occasionally freeze-up while selecting channels. It probably happens once a month. I don't think they have ever frozen while actually watching a show. Usually rebooting the unit by disconnecting the power and then reconnecting will fix the problem. There have been a few occasions where rebooting did not fix the problem but I think there was some kind of software update occurring. When the Roku did finally start working, I noticed that the menu for Roku or Netflix looked different. I also had one occurrence of the Roku 3 losing its connection with the remote. Keep your paper instructions because you will need to consult them if this ever happens. Overall, though, the units are pretty reliable. No major complaints.

I've had this for months and still love it, we don't watch any normal TV. With the Roku, I can get NBC, CBS, Fox News, and WSJournal, and I absolutely love that I can CHOOSE which news item to watch and skip those that are bad or boring AND not have to sit through long news items which drone on about useless and repeated info like normal TV. I also love some of the other channels that cable does not offer, like the documentaries, nature, and old movies. BUT I would like to see more old TV shows. Like they need to bring back Mork and Mindy for awhile.

I bought my Roku 3 at Christmas and it is the best purchase I made. Roku 3 offers so may options and they continue to add more all the time. Very soon I will not need to pay for cable anymore.
