great for "cable cutting"

this is my second Roku box. I purchased my first one back when they were selling the XD (which is now called Roku 2 I think). I decided on roku because I wanted to play streaming content on my television instead of a cable connection. I am happy with the Roku concept because there are virtually limitless options as far as apps go. I subscribe to netflix, amazon prime, and I purchased a lifetime playon license. I have access to all of the content I had from cable that I need and then some.
of the two boxes, I like the ROKU 3 better because of two main reasons.
1. the ethernet connection ensures the fastest internet speed. This works for me because I am close to my hub. The other boxes have just wifi connections which is fine, but ethernet provides the most reliable connection.
2. the headphone jack. It's great for when the kids are watching their shows and I don't want to hear it.

The reason I am giving the box a 4 star instead of a five star rating is because there are a couple of glitches that I have noticed. First of all, the software of the 3 box does not allow subtitles to show up on some videos (not the closed captions, but the english translations when the characters are speaking another language). This mainly happens on the M-go app, but I have seen similar glitches when I run Netflix content as well. The other annoyance is the battery life of the remote when you use the headphones a lot. I don't know if this can even be improved upon, but the remote does go through a lot of batteries. I have solved this problem by using rechargeable ones and always having them on hand and charged up.

Retirement is so much better with a Roku!! We've had Roku boxes since they first came out and each one gets better. The Roku gets our vote for offering the best entertainment value on the market.

I have one Roku 2 and 2 Roku 3s on 3 different TVs in the house. The one that is being used the most is a Roku 3 in the family room. Easy to install and easy to use. Now that Youtube is available, access to all sorts of content is almost perfect. I say almost perfect because if "mirroring" for iOS devices was also available, then it would be completely perfect. But no mirroring is available as of this writing. There are apps that will let you play your pics and music from your iphone and ipad on Roku but no full mirroring of the screen.
Controls are easy but to make it even easier, I have downloaded the Roku Remote app on my iPhone and iPad. The app replicates the remote and also gives me access to my account, my channels, and provides a keyboard too so searching becomes a snap. I have also programed my Roku into my Harmony Remote, which makes it even easier to use.
I do not use the earphone thing on the remote that often because audio quality is not there, but it does come in handy when you have to keep noise to a minimum.
Come on Raku, make "mirroring" happen and maybe I will buy a fourth one!
