Stopped working after about 9 months

I bought the Roku 3 last Fall when my wife and I decided to cut the cable. The Roku 3 allowed us to better do this. We used it for Amazon Prime and Netflix as well as Plex and Simple TV. After a few months there seemed to be some kind of short in the Roku 3 and it would routinely need to be unplugged and plugged back in. After about 9 months it stopped working completely. When this happened we decided to buy an Amazon Fire TV to replace it. The Amazon Fire TV is better for us in every way except it doesn't have headphone ability and it is yet to support Simple TV, which is kind of a big thing. But I wasn't about to buy another Roku 3 to replace on that stopped working after 9 months.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We love our Roku! Cut out cable bill out and we can still watch great TV.

Good Viewing

For those who love good viewing there is a good selection for 24 hours. I wish that the description of each title was in bigger print. I find it difficult to read and I often have to sit closer to the screen when choosing what to watch.

I flip-flopped on the roku3 vs. chromecast vs. fire TV debate for months, mainly b/c I waited til I got the new TV, in the end I purchased all 3, knowing I would send back 2 of them. And the Roku was the clear winner by a VERY wide margin, while it was not the easiest to set-up, it has FAR more choices, and it is easily THE FASTEST device of the bunch. The Roku stands head, shoulders, AND TORSO above other streaming devices. Buy it, you will not be disappointed. If it had an open web browser, there would be no competitors left.

Best streaming device for Netflix

I have used Blu Ray players to stream movies on Netflix in the past, and each time they failed to deliver on reliability and eventually would not allow me to connect to Netflix at all, no matter what I did. I haven't had the Roku long, a couple of months, but so far it has worked well with Netflix. Only issue I have is it does lock up occasionally, apparently from overheating. I read articles where people have actually drilled holes in the box and removed the cover to install heat sinks. Roku really needs to address that. Otherwise, very nice streaming device, very easy to install and use. I do wish it had an option to restart a movie from the beginning instead of forcing me to resume and then rewind. That's a minor inconvenience.

I Love my Roku!!

I got my Roku 3 as a fathers day present last year as an "I've been wanting one of these" easy solution. It is wonderful, easy and convenient. I've taken it camping, to places with just a tv (no cable), and hotel stays. Configuration is easy and I can watch what I want to watch. We have 3 smart tv's at home but my kids are always wanting the Roku. It might be time to buy them one also. Love this product.
