Fantastic little product; small size was surprise.

I heard and read about this device for quite some time; finally decide to get one. Installation didn't go as expected; had to call customer support. Folks were extremely helpful; all we did was reset the Roku device, after it updated. Choice of channels is unbelievable. Video streaming is no problem for the Roku device; it all depends on what speed you're using, or willing to pay for. The only downside to this little device is no live feed like satellite or cable; if this became an option, satellite/cable providers would have a serious threat facing them. I was so pleased with this device, that I bought two more, and installed them. The second install went the same as the first; however, the third install went just like the brochure stated - no reset involved. As far as resetting the device is concerned, the first two seemed to have been manufactured earlier than the third, whose installation went smooth as silk. I highly recommend this device, and am patiently waiting on the next upgrade to see what can be done to improved it.

Great hardware, many channels, channels disappoint

We bought our Roku 3 about a month ago, and had no trouble at all installing it into our entertainment system in just minutes. The remote is fairly intuitive, though it could be easier to use in the dark.
It has a great selection of channels -- all the major ones are here, and numerous minor ones, many free. I really only have two complaints -- a number of the channels are pay-per-view, which can get expensive in a hurry. Netflix is the best, with a standard $7.99 a month subscription fee. Amazon is the worst, with pay-per-view on top of a $79.00 annual subscription fee (you also get free two-day Amazon shipping on some items included with that). 
My other complaint is that the streaming channels do not have near the same number of shows and movies that the mail service has. We had the Netflix mail DVD service for years prior to the current service, and can tell a big difference. Netflix has not had the last 10 movies/shows we searched for, including Modern Family.
Overall, I believe that the Roku 3 is the best device available today for steaming media content. I've even uploaded my Facebook pictures and videos through the Roku to my television. Just don't expect to find a large catalog of content available as yet.

Love my Roku 3/Mohu Leaf Ultimate combo!

I had been thinking about 'cutting the cord' with DirecTV for quite a while. I researched alternatives, so when my contract was up with DirecTV, I bought a Roku 3 and a Mohu Leaf Ultimate (indoor antenna). We also wanted to update our TV to a flat-screen HDTV (researched that, too, found the model we wanted at HHGregg and they agreed to the price of the exact model we found online - saved $140!). My husband and I got everything up and running pretty quickly ( we did make a call to Roku for clarification of a step in the process - our mistake). Takes just a short time to figure out how to navigate. There are soooo many channels! We have more than we can possibly watch, and only pay for three channels for a total of $24.99/month. Beats over $100/month! That savings will pay for the Roku and the Leaf real quick! No contracts! Love the earbuds that come with the Roku 3. We highly recommend the Roku/Leaf combo to everyone!

Great Devise but....

Roku needs to be turned off or out of range of the tv, internet etc...it just stays on, not good. I see too many channels that charge for service I would like to see Roku bring content without commercials without a monthly fee or just stay with your cable company, upgrades are a must. I will purchase the next Roku if you make changes. Having many "chargeable" channels does not interest me. You also need to have a year warranty.

Not enough Options...

I bought the Roku 3 mainly for Plex.  I was not satisfied with the layout because the designers at Roku do not allow for different views of the menus and display of content.  So, unfortunately, every app displays contents exactly the same way (5 videos max per line) and I wanted to use the beautiful Plex layout.
Other than that, it was quick and easy to setup and if you are not using pled, it could be a great device.  I returned this device after a weeks use.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

love the fact that i was able to cut cable, plex is great along with hulu and netflix, also play on play later is great but you need a windows PC, but i had a problem with content being blocked i had to unplug roku and i was able to reset but i googled this and this may be an ongoing problem

Best Streaming

I bought my Roku because I was tired of the lag and poor streaming of my Blue Ray player. I was hoping those issues would be solved with Roku and THEY WERE. It is so much better and faster that now the Blue Ray player is only used for Blue Ray movies. I do wish they offered YouTube though. I found a way to send YouTube vids to the Roku with my phone, but I'd like to be able to access the channel and my play list so I can listen to my music while cleaning house and working out. Add YouYube and I will change my rating to 5 stars. :)

Since I have had my Roku 3, I have had some minor issues with my remote control and some initial problems with lockup of the box. The service people were great in getting these issues resolved. They sent me a new remote and that corrected the problem with the remote. The lock up has not happened since I have loaded all the channels that I want.
This is a very good product that I would highly recommend to anyone that wants an almost unlimited availability of channels to watch on your TV or Computer.
