Disappointing, almost still need cable TV!

Purchased this to replace cable tv but seriously thinking about going back to cable. Why? Free channel offerings are terrible, for example loved (& missed Turner Classic movie channel). Roku old movie channels offer b-grade (and lower) movie choices. HBO Go and Showtime Anytime, looks like you can see their series, right? Wrong, asks for "enter your cable provider". Animal Planet has free channel which consists of webcams at animal shelters and zoos, after watching about 2 minutes, commercial pops on. Pluses: watching much less TV, it is very easy to install and use.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love my first Roku, and my second Roku, but, not so much my Roku 3. I'm writing this review at the insistence of Roku, to review my Roku 3. In general, I love Roku and how it makes my dumb TVs smart. Prior to deciding to try Roku, I watched how all my friends were buying Smart TVs, and always wondered if the price difference between a smart TV and a dumb TV was justified. After trying out the first Roku I got my answer. I decided it was not justified, at least for me. So I bought the second Roku, a bit more expensive, but with additional features. Loved it. I had some complicated scheme to be able to connect a headset so we could watch TV while others were sleeping, so, when the Roku 3 was advertised with the new feature of allowing a headset to be plugged in to its remote for quiet listening, I immediately bought it, and paired it with the main TV, in my living room. That is where the disappointment comes in. For some very annoying reason, this Roku freezes when you least expect it, and becomes totally unresponsive to the remote. I don't watch much TV but my kids do and a common occurrence from them is: "oh yeah dad, the living room Roku hasn't been working for a few days", at which time I do a hard reset, wait for a while, and when it decides to re-start, which varies, I enter all my information as if it were a first setup. Then, it works like new until the next freeze, which could be anywhere from a week to a month. This might be something particular to my device, but it started happening close to the one year guarantee such that by the time I thought of returning it, it was too late. However, in spite of this situation, I still love my Rokus. Only my Roku 3 is not in the living room, but in my garage. My living room TV is now paired with Roku 1.

I have had the roku for about 6 months and I absolutel love it! It has all the online streaming channels & more at my fingertips! Including You tube and Faceback!

My daughter will spend hours at the tv if I let her just watching what ever I put on. I love it to, but don't get to watch my shows very often.

We are watching more and more content on our Roku. May be ready to disconnect cable and use local over the air for live TV.

I have 3 Roku3 in my house. Love it! Works great! Gives opportunity to watch what you want for reasonable expenses, compare to all cable companies, dishnetwork, direct tv and others, who sell you packages
