Good unit, great price, but very unreliable

Having had a truly great experience with the original Roku we purchased this new unit with enthusiasm. Unfortunately that went away quickly. The unit is attractive, small, and we love the basic feature set and all the channels we can get. Unfortunately it's been completely unreliable. It crashes at least once a week, dropping back to a blank screen and then the Roku boot screen. Many videos we start watching, most especially on the TED channel, just hang or go into a never ending loop repeating the last 10 seconds or so. For all the name brand channels - NetFlix, Hulu, it's been great, but overall very disappointed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am still amazed each time I use Roku as to the wealth of features it has, and it keeps getting more.

bad experience

My three kids were enjoying getting to know the Roku, for about 2 weeks, then a storm went through here and now it doesn't work. There's a white light on it, and no matter what suggestions I have found online, nothing will fix the 'no signal' error, or change the light to green. I'm bummed because I work hard for my money, and now this treasured item that we found to be so cool, is merely a waste of my hard earned income. I've read so many blogs about this being very typical of the Roku, to quit working and not be fixable. I wish I had known sooner. Unfortunately for me, I bought it from someone, without warranty, and without the option of an even exchange in the event that there's a problem. I am leary about purchasing another one, even though I had plans to buy three more. It's a sad day....
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've had a Roku for about 5 years, upgrading several times. I've never tried any other method of streaming content to my TV because Roku has worked so well for me.

I love this device. With NetFlix, Hulu, HBOGo, Amazon, Crackle, PBS and the ability to play files from my Synology NAS, I no longer have the need to subscribe to cable and cancelled my contract.
My only issue with the device -- For some reason, Pandora has never worked for me and only shows a blank screen.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love the Roku 3. For those of us with reg. digital, no satellite or cable, having your stations get all rippled and eventually just say 'no signal', it can be truly annoying. But with Roku, I switch over to it and I can watch so many different things. But also have channels of old films and older tv shows that I love. Having Crackle, so that I can see Seinfeld episodes is great too. PLEX is fabulous to play whatever media is on my laptop and if I miss a show I can go to that broadcasters online site and watch it later on my tv. Easy to operate. No hassles. Love it.
