It's been a couple of months and I'm still in love with my Roku 3! At a nominal cost, my Roku 3 was very easy to install and it quickly enabled me to stream a wide variety of movies, games and shows. The Roku #3 is the best of my home entertainment options and I recommend it unconditionally!

I originally had the very first Roku and it worked great but I wanted one that supported closed captioning. Well the Roku 3 does support the closed captioning AND it is much faster than the original Roku.

Nice but unit gets very hot

Very nice for the price. I wish it had better WiFi connectivity with my home computer network, it would be nice to be able to access content from desired web pages (individual film subscriptions or music services, etc). Also noticed that the unit tends to get VERY hot. I'm worried this could result in a shortened lifespan.

Didn't work for us

My family was interested in cutting the cable. We wanted to use internet sites to watch tv. Most broadcast shows are put online within 24-hours and many cable channels do the same.
When we tried to use the Roku3, the channel apps (Fox, SyFy, etc) all asked for our cable company login. This is stupid, since I can use a browser to go to the channel's website and watch shows. But... Roku3 doesn't have a browser. Even my PS3 has at least a sub-par browser.
Now I could use apps (Netflix, Hulu Plus, and VuDu) to watch TV. Yes, you have to pay for those, and each one carries slightly different listings. When you add the monthly fees up, it's more than basic cable.
So long story short, we returned it to the store and got basic cable.
One thing, if you want Asian TV, the apps work great. it's just the US and European apps that don't.

We purchased 2 Roku 3's. We have 1 for our family room and 1 for our master bedroom. We eliminated our satellite service. We are quite happy with our decision with 1 exception: we miss live broadcasts of news and sporting events. Some channels are only available on Roku IF you also connect via cable or satellite service. The viewing choices available on all the channels to chose from is amazing. The monthly cost we pay for channels we like is minimal considering the cost spent for all the channels not watched with the satellite service we had.

Our second ROKU, much faster than the earlier version. The channel selection is what makes streaming through a ROKU different than a smart tv or DVD player, and why I tell everyone that I LOVE my ROKU.
