Interesting Device

There appears to be some good features of a Roku. However, the one you think would be there is not - you want direct access to the Internet - period. However, the Roku really provides controlled access of the Internet so that they can drive you toward spending money on paying for a lot of TV and movie options, especially for TV reruns. It will take some time to figure out what is truly free from the Internet vs. what you have to pay for. In the end - a nice little device but not what I thought it would be. I want to get rid of my bloated cable/satellite TV - with their ridiculous games they play with contracts and prices. I thought Roku would allow me to do that but it is not the case. I think I'll get more from just connecting my laptop to the TV and surf the free Internet. The Roku may be good for watching a movie now and then but for an everyday device it is not it. So I have to figure out a different and better way to say good bye to my TV provider. Also - if you are network savvy and like your network to be totally secure and use static IP addressing - forgetaboutit. The Roku will only allow you to have dynamic IP addressing - it has no method for inputting a static IP address. the Roku engineers ought to think about that as a future feature/option.

I bought this product a couple months back and use it all the time. Being able to watch movies and TV shows when I want and without commercials is the greatest. The Roku was easy to set up with TV and easy to connect to the networks.

I've owned a Samsung BR player with streaming capabilities, a Netgear streaming box and a Roku. There's simply no comparison, the Roku beats the others by a large margin in terms of speed, functionality, choice of content and practicality. Image and sound quality seem to be just about the same on every box, but the Roku's remote control and ease of use are unparalleled by its rivals. Google's Chromecast is another interesting choice. Usability is fantastic and it's size and power input are even more practical than the Roku. But content is still limited, and for that reason, Roku is still the best streaming device out there.

I have had this a couple of months now and couldn't be happier. I am saving so much money and I have many more choices than I had with cable. This machine gives you access to anything that you would want to watch and it just works with no problems.

My Roku 3 is my second Roku I originally purchased the Roku HD a couple years ago and decided to upgrade to the Roku 3 because of the new amazing inteface and the remote that can act like a game controller and also allows me to plugin a set of head phones and watch TV late at night without bothering my wife. My Original Roku HD still works fine inm y daughters room I cant recommend the Roku highly enough 15 stars!

ONLY ONE PROBLEM

The ROKU 3 works great except for one problem. First let me say we got this particular version because in our house our router is pretty far from our TV and we'd get annoying pauses when we watched streaming movies on Netflix. We tried wireless extenders but they didn't really help. So we got the ROKU 3 because it has an Ethernet port. We strung an Ethernet cable from the router to the ROKU (via the crawlspace under the house) and that took care of that. However we still experience abrupt stoppages when listening to streaming music, and it doesn't seem to matter which online music service we use. For no reason the music will just stop every so often. The ROKU either goes back to the menu or the screen just freezes where it is. Sometimes we can restart it just by going back a screen or two, other times I have to unplug the Ethernet cable and plug it back in to reboot. This is a king size pain. If there was one thing I could change about this device, that'd be it. Like I said, other than this one problem it works real well.

I love the availability of shows with Roku but sometimes it just stops for no reason and requires me to press reset and enter a code again. Mostly it's cool though
