I own two of the less expensive Roku's and like them much better then the Roku 3. It rarely works. It has to be unplugged/reset every time I want to use it. I would not recommend this Roku to anyone.

Roku Rocks!

We really enjoy our Roku. It is super easy to use. Just plug and play. We are now able to enjoy hundreds of shows and movies on our own schedule. We also play Angry Bird quite a bit. It is a kick to be able to play on our big screen TV. It is truly reliable and we have found that it streams better then our other "smart" TV which half the time drops out on us. So, we give it a AAA rating

I own two Rokus and would not be without one. I get viewing options not available with cable or satelllite. Many items are free and the ones that have subscriptions allows me to pay for what I want to watch. True al a carte Television, cable and satellite providers will never provide. My Roku 3 tends to overheat and needs to be reset a lot, but still worth it to me.

Not an alternative...

I bought the Roku 3 because I was exploring the idea of cutting the cable cord. I wasn't too sure what was out there and wanted to see if the Roku was a true alternative. It is not. Many of the available apps are either buggy, unprofessional, standard definition, or come with their own monthly charges. This makes the Roku no better than cable. I struggle with the use case for this thing? If it were not for TheBlaze, which I could have gotten just the same on my SmartTV, the Roku 3 would literally just sit collecting dust. Some of the apps actually require you to enter your cable provider information to use it... Ummm, no. Again, aside from giving you a way to have a Set Top Box alternative, with very limited channels, there's almost no reason at all to own one. People have asked me about it, and I've told them the same. Waste of money.

Bought it and tried it out. Can't view half the hulu content (Web Only). couldn't log into my Amazon Prime account. Then went into a death spiral of updates. Updated and then said it didn't update and retried over and over again. Then updated and then wouldn't turn on. Then back to the update spiral.

Simple & easy to set up and use. More content than competitors. Spelling out movie titles one character at a time is awkward. Needs resetting from time to time but otherwise works well.

We were nervous about switching from cable but find that we now watch more movies and other shows that we actually like rather than idly clicking through cable channels. We much prefer using Netflix on this system than on the Wii, as we had been. Our only problem so far is that occasionally the sound doesn't process properly (it comes out pitched too low and doesn't sync) and the system has to be rebooted to fix it.
