Had the Roku2 and decided to try the roku3 and give the 2 to my son. The 3 has some extra things that the 2 did not. BUT, the Roku 3 has to be reset at least once or twice a week, something the Roku2 never needed, because it will give you an UN-authorized user error and a blank screen. Also seems to run a lot hotter than the 2 did.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This thing rocks my socks, I literally have not worn socks since I bought it out of fear. It's stupid fast (which sounds like an oxymoron, but this isn't physics, it's hyperbole!) and I love the menu system. If you're on this site because you don't know if you should buy this or something else then here's your answer. If you're an apple person and everything you own is apple then you're probably not reading this and already have an apple tv. If you're not a slave to apple, this is far and away the better choice. I can say this because I have both and I find myself using the Roku in the bedroom more often than the appletv in the living room.
We cut the cable cord, we rock a series of Roku's and ooma for home phone and an AppleTv so we can get at Itunes movies for the kids. We're saving a ton of money and didn't even switch to lizard insurance.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is my second Roku. Love the headphone jack! Works perfectly! So easy to use my 3 1/2 year-old-son is able to navigate his kids shows on PBS.

I've been a Roku owner for years and was happy with that one. I was amazed at how much faster the new Roku3 is. The interface navigation is faster and the streaming starts almost immeditely! I use it more than my expensive SmartTV apps!
