Switched from Boxee to Roku3

What's Good About It
- The interface is snappy, easy to use, and fairly consistent across apps.
- It's very stable. Goes weeks to months without requiring reboot.
- The major players are finally all present - plus a zillion other niche apps - like "The Firewood Cutting Channel"
- Super easy to set up.
Plex Saves the Day
There are several really important features that are missing - but fortunately you can get them via the Plex app (which is cheap, but not free). Without these, I'd probably just use apps on my TV / Blu-Ray / Refrigerator / Lamp / etc. because *everything* nowadays has apps. There's no reason to have an additional box for Netflix and Hulu. Plex really helps the Roku cross that boundary from being yet another doodad with apps to a really useful integration point. With plex you can:
- Create a "queue" you can save videos into from your phone/tablet/desktop to watch later on TV via Roku
- Watch your own videos from a Plex server on your network
- Get into your Music and video content in iTunes
What's Could Be Better
- I paid for the box - don't show me ads right in the menu.
- It's not a complete cable-cutting solution - you need to do something on your own about OTA signal.
- It doesn't try to cover everything. It's not "internet TV". There is no browser app. You only get the channels that are built for it.
The Nitty Gritty
I finally gave up the Boxee for a Roku 3. It's really unfortunate because the promise of the Boxee was so great - but D-Link let it die. The philosophy of the Boxee was to bring together all the content and make it easy for you to watch - including broadcast TV through the LIVE TV attachment. The Boxee cost more, but it didn't jack you for payments and hit you with ads. You just buy it, put it on the shelf, and it does its thing, like back in the old days when products were about delivering value rather than creating revenue streams.
The Roku, by contrast has ads right in the top level menu. *Ads* on a box that I paid for. And it's not unique - my Panasonic Blu-ray player has ads built into its menu too. Apparently this is the wave of the future. The Roku is better than the Boxee in most practical ways - it's faster, the apps are more modern, it's extremely stable. But it doesn't share the Boxee's vision - it's not primarily a device for delivering value to you, it's a device for extracting value from you. So I hate to see the Boxee go - maybe some other company can recapture the vision. But until Google TV gets a serious upgrade, or Apple unveils the mysterious "solution" to the TV problem, the Roku is probably the best thing going.

We have both a Roku 3 and 2 and love them. We love streaming in our shows and find the savings and convenience of our Roku players a blessing. One of the best decisions we have made to cancel satellite and go to Roku and streaming!

I LOVE having my NETFLIX on here, but other options are still somewhat limited. It needs more FREE TV episodes instead of having to pay out of the wazoo for them. I thought I would be able to cancel my cable, bu no can do!! I was going to purchase a 2nd Roku, but it's not worth it.

Content is easy to find and the interface is quick to navigate. The remote is very easy to use. Loading movies/TV is very fast and quality exceeds expectations. I rarely have buffering issues which is fantastic.
