My fiancé and I got this a while back instead of cable and it is definitely the better choice. It's way cheaper to purchase the subscriptions offered instead of paying for thousands of channels you'll never watch!! We could even watch the Olympics, World Cup, and our favorite local news channel. This is a great purchase!

Its fine if you dont have a PS3 or a smart TV

Its not a bad product. Majority of the good channels require you to already have subscription TV, then you have to enter your provider and account number to access the content. Access to UTube is great. It will give you access to Netflix and other pay on demand options if you don't have a PS3, Blu Ray player, or a smart TV.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I like it. Had the original Roku.....this is easier. Although, it could use a digital audio output or RCA jacks for my stereo system.

My Roku HD (mfg refurbished) was purchased over the Chrome and other available devices for one simple reason--the ROKU has access to Amazon movies and content. That makes the Roku the perfect accompaniment to an Amazon Prime membership.
Dreading a common issue in the past with USB devices called "plug and pray", there is always the question of whether a device will actually be simple to set up, especially if it involves a home network wifi connection. I am glad to tell you that a child could hook up a Roku. The written instructions are clear and provide all the information and options you would ever need to know. In less than 10 minutes the Roku was up and running in a network wifi. No connection problems, no handshake problems with the network or to the HDMI switcher on an AV receiver--beyond the hunting and pecking letters and numbers using the on-screen entries, just about anyone should be able to get this running properly.
Heading straight to Amazon Prime Video, connection was quick and easy. The current home network is served by Comcast and generally runs higher than 20 MPS, so no hesitation, stuttering, or picture/sound dropouts have been observed during the playing of multiple movies. There are huge variety of other freebies and paid content available on the Roku. Hundreds of video options include channels that provide movies, TV, and network TV--and now includes a direct app for YouTube. Music from the variety of web based services include a TuneIn Radio app, Pandora, Slacker, Spotify, and others. There is even a Roku app that allows you to stream music, video, and pictures from Windows Media Player on your networked computers. An Air Play app was not obvious but there may be a workaround. The remote control app available for apple and android devices comes highly recommended.
I have not cut any cables yet (continuing to love a long term relationship with Direct TV and their networked DVR), but the Roku gives pause that it is possible... and may add to a future negotiating position when DTV tries to raise my rate. If there is a clean way to use a DVR with a menu driven interface for content searching and tied directly into the Roku I would like to know.

Nice device but...

Having issues with the output black level on my panasonic plasma, I have to powercycle my television to get the proper black level on this device. If I don't blacks appear gray. I have not figured out the proper settings on the television to eliminate this issue yet.

We've had our Roku 3 for a few months now and couldn't be happier. It's changed the way we watch television and opened us up to watch shows that we'd always wanted to see but hadn't had access to. There are so many channels to choose from, sooo many viewing opportunities. And on our schedule--not the networks. No more DVR conflicts, no more running out of space on the hard drive. It's the best!!

I couldn't believe how easy this unit was to set up and use. Literally just a few minutes and a few "steps." Even an old fogey like me could do it. Since I subscribe to Amazon Prime, I have access to over 35,000 movies and tv episodes on my big screen. Then there are all the other channels besides Amazon Prime. If you can't find something you like with a Roku, you can't be pleased. I am very pleased.
