I purchased this to replace an aging roku xd. The new UI is definitely an improvement and when it's working it's a lot snappier than the XD. When it's not working, it's completely unusable. It sometimes fails to boot up, hanging at the boot screen for days until I leave it off for a long while. It sometimes crashes, and especially with netflix will bootloop. The bootloop consists of several minutes of the loading screen with prompts to set it up (like it's never been used), it tries a software update (with a jittery progress bar) then repeats the process.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Who Needs Cable?!

Not me, that's who. Honestly, I fell in love with the Roku with the Roku 2. After I discovered the plex app on it, I had no need for anything else. I have multiple Rokus now and everytime I upgrade I give away my old one to friends and family who then fall in love with it. The Roku 3 is super fast. I have no lag and am able to connect to my 5ghz network. I recently bought an apple tv just to try it..... I ended up returning it.

I love this model of Roku. It is very fast, and trouble free. It has a very user friendly interface, and a great selection of channels.

We started out using our Roku3 for Netflix, but it rapidly replaced our entire entertainment setup.

It's hard not to like Roku it supports many of the streaming services that exist and that anyone would want; it's not tied to one provider's eco-system and set up is effortless. Roku - pure plug-and-play entertainment.
