Streaming Made Easy

Purchased a Roku 3 mostly for streaming Netflix as streaming through my Blu-ray player was so frustrating and did not work most of the time. The Roku was easy to set-up and simply just works! Picture is very good, it is easy to use, and no annoying stopping and restarting of stream. Definitely a worthwhile purchase. Playing videos via a USB thumbdrive also works very well. My only complaint is the lack of documentation, a good owner's manual would have garnered 5-stars instead of four. So far, I have been able to find any needed information on the website but it would have been quicker and easier to look in a well written manual. For example, in order to play video from a USB drive you will need to load the Roku Media Channel. This little tidbit took much too long to figure out. Also, check your picture resolution setting if you have a 1080P TV. It seems the default setting is 720P.

I have had my Roku for about a month now and am just thrilled with it! I have dropped my cable and don't miss it one bit. The Roku is very user friendly. Now I'm saving $80 a month without cable.

I've owned the Roku 3 over a month now. It's a great device. Love the headphone jack on the remote. I've found the device easy to set up and use. I have also found channels and shows that interest me. When I first bought it, I was glad to know that I can access my Netflix and Amazon accounts, among a few other channels that interested me.
However, even though Roku has access to over 1000 channels, I find most of the selections lacking. First off, I have no problem with religious programs. But it's amazing at the number of religious channels that have come up since I bought my Roku. It would seem like that after you have so many religious channels available to other users, where's the stopping point? Next, I notice that a number of channels have the same public domain programs and movies but each channel just has a different name. Kind of like too much of the same thing, but each one with a different wrapper. Third, even though there are all of these different types of programming, there is one thing missing. There are no real, dedicated cartoon channels. Yeah, there are a few public domain cartoon channels. And you can find some things on Netflix and Amazon, but not a real, dedicated cartoon channel that has things from the 60's, 70's, 80', and 90's. So I hope you will keep that in mind.
So in short, what I'm asking is, is there a team of people who review channels for content before they are allowed to go online so they can cull out channels that are offering the same material? I'm sure it's nice to tell people that they can access over 1000 channels. But what are the numbers if the content isn't good? At present, I found 18 channels that I have an interest in. And of those, I only look at 5, the others I will decide later if I want to keep them.

I previously had an Apple TV and used an HDMI cable to stream shows from my computer in addition to using my TiVO. I really wanted to be able to use Amazon Prime and had recently gotten Plex for my home movie collection. Roku made everything work. I've used my Apple TV once since I got the Roku and have given up on my cable. The Netflix and Amazon interfaces are flawless and make it much easier to use. We didn't realize our cable TV was accidentally disconnected for a week as we were just using the Roku to stream TV from Hulu and shows from Netflix. Oh, and the set up was amazingly fast and easy. Much easier than any other system I have tried to integrate.

Frankly, I bought the Roku because I wanted a subscription to Netflix. It has worked perfectly. So easy to connect and use. What I really love is being able to plug my noise cancelling headphones into the remote's jack. Great sound!

I bought Roku after hearing a friend talk about it. I am not that technically savvy so I was a little skeptical about the instillation. I was so pleased with how easy the set up was that I actually bought another as a gift.

I brought Roku 3 after reading so many reviews and and hearing this is the best of the best. I tried it and it had all these apps as it states but i was disappointed in the contents of the streamed apps. after you get past the cream of the crop such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. you theses apps these so called free apps that don't have much of anything then you get thes apps like Lifetime that requires you have cable TV. So it appears that its all about marketing these apps to sell you this product and rely9ng on your visual. it also did a lot of bufferring trying to watch netflix etc. I was not overly impressed and returned the product for refund. I'm not saying its not good, but it didn't wow me over. I tried another competitor and it worked flawless. maybe I'll try the Roku stick when it comes out to be sure. but all these 1,000s of streamed apps is just marketing to me to get your attention when yoiu obviously have to pay a subscription to get to enjoy any of them and you'll end of back at cable tv prices.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
