Not a good cable replacement for me...but ??

I thought I was going to use this to replace cable, but there is not enough content to utilize. If you want to access cable channel apps..you have to use your information from the provider you have signed up with...if you don't have cable, then you don't have access to the channels. If you have cable, you can sign up to view your channels on the Roku, but if you cancel your cable...what will happen ? Will you then lose the channels to watch on Roku...I would think so, but you can take that risk. It is much more convenient than hooking up a laptop for netflix and such...this I enjoy. But is it really worth the trouble...I'm not sure. When you can get more access to live tv, it might be worth it...if you work overseas, ou can subscribe to an app USTVNOW but not sure if it works in the states or not.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Technically a very good design. However, content is lacking. I want access to all the same channels available through cable providers, especially Fox News!

I have read the reviews and wonder if I have the same product. We only use it to view Netflix movies. So we have only experienced that sole section. We have no time to watch anything else so cannot rate them.
The movie selection process is archaic. The first thing that pops up is a line listing the movies already watched. Why? We want to watch something else - we KNOW what we have watched.
The ensuing lines then attempt to match movies to ones we have already watched. But the list is so diverse it is useless - tastes vary.
The software to find a specific movie title, or a movie by a specific star, is so old it must predate Windows 95. Selection is done by the telephone key pad system, one key pressed at a time when negotiating the ups, downs and crossways to select the next key.
It really wastes an enormous amount of time. Why not allow a keyboard and mouse via a USB port to communicate wirelessly? Or just bring the selection software into the 21st century?

Speed of downloads and picture quality

Purchased a year ago and have experienced no problem. It downloads program quickly. The picture quality is excellent.

Lots of channels and choices, maybe too many

I have had the Roku for 6 months now. I love it most of the time. Need some more common apps like for Cinemax etc...Also would like to have a way to mirror my android smartphone through the device.....

Allowed me to cut the cable television

It offered a wide array of programming including enough children's programming that the decision to cut the cable television was a no brainer. We are saving a ton of money by not having cable.
