Often keys don't work, sometimes sound no video, need keyboard on control too hard on the screen, pause, advance not clear or easy

I bought this quite some time ago and am very happy with it.
The Pros: It's quick to respond to user input and it's load times are pretty good (much faster than the DVD player with apps I replaced with this). The software is updated on a regular basis, which is always a plus. The last thing I wanted to spend money on a device that is not well supported by the manufacturer. It also has a pretty good selection of "channels" to install. I love the remote, and I love the iOS app for the device after it's most recent major overhaul. Another big bonus is that it does both wired and wireless. I bought this one because it has a wire!!!!!
The Cons: The adds take up valuable screen real-estate. I'd like to see them removed, but let's be reasonable, that won't happen. I wouldn't mind shrinking them by 20% though, or enough to fit in another row of "channels" while deciding what I want to watch. The only other drawback I found is the lack of support for mounting a local network file share. I like the USB jack, but I have a file server at home with TONS of home movies and pictures. I want to point the Roku at it and call it a day, but it doesn't support mounting either SAMBA or NFS file shares (I have a Linux server).
Overall: The major pieces are here and they are high quality. It sucks down a very little amount of power and the screen saver doesn't kill my TV when my kids leave it on overnight. For the few drawbacks this thing has, it's pro's greatly outweigh them. Oh yeah, I mentioned that the software is well supported... so there is a chance in the future that the con's might get fixed and I'll be even happier with it than I am now!
Bottom line, get one, you wont regret it!

The Best Birthday Gift

My wife bought the ROKU 3 and I didn't know what to expect. Its a great product. Not only have we saved money by only having internet access, but we are able to see shows on our schedule. With Amazon Prime, Netflix and all the other channels, we have something for everyone. From science, the arts, news, romance and action to comedy, drama and documentaries
Easy to use and setup, it takes no space at all. Wired or wireless setup is a snap and you can use it with a computer and external drives as well. The product is about as "plug-n-play" as you get.
My only criticism is that with only internet access, I wasn't able to watch the World Cup. But hey, we adapted and visited our favorite eatery and watering holes.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Pretty Much All I Ever Watch Now!!

My husband got me this for my birthday because my blu-ray player was a little dated. I really didn't need the dvd drive so he got me Roku. I can put my digital movies on my external hard drive and play them. Netflix, Break, Youtube and dozens of other channels I watch. I love how it is so portable. When I work in the garage, I just unplug it from the bedroom and then I can watch Netflix while I work. I also LOVE the ear phones that plug into the remote. They are so comfy and I can watch movies without disturbing my husband when he is asleep. I usually fall asleep with them in every night. I love it! Best gift I've got in years =)

Decent Device

I have owned a ROKU now for over a year; and it's great when it works. There have been issues with the device and it's been frustrating when it has to be re-loaded. I would say that overall it's good; just wish it was a bit more consistent.

This unit is my second Roku. I also have a 1 generation Roku. The 1st generation model has a slow processor and takes a long time to download and process. I bought the Roku 3 because their marketing claimed to have a faster processor. This would have been an awesome upgrade, but the new unit loses its wifi connection very very frequently. I have tried a "N" signal and also a "G" signal and even swapped routers all with an excellent signal strength. This unit just will not stay connected. It is a fairly simple process to reset the wifi connection, but it is just an inconvenience that ruins my relaxation and "me time." This is a fundamental issue that Roku should resolve with a firmware or hardware update. I'm reluctant to recommend this model to a friend. However, I would recommend this if you are willing to dive into the "settings" page regularly.
