I am very happy with my Roku 3. I bought the 3 because I have an HD tv. It was SUPER easy to set up and the picture is great. The streaming is fast, the remote control is intuitive, there are tons of channels (lots that I haven't even looked at yet!).

Roku Rocks!

The Roku gets high marks. It's super easy to set up, reliable, and I love being able to add channels to my playlist. I did however have two minor issues. My home theater doesn't have an HDMI input, so I can't get 5.1 surround. Also, from time to time, the playback would be slow....like it was in slo motion. A simple power recycle fixes it.

The best in a bad situation.

I honestly think what everyone wants is a Tivo-like set-top box that can watch anything as soon as it starts airing and anytime after that (as well as all content you have locally). No "channels". No "bundles". Smarter searching. No awkward setting up of recording schedules. Everything available forever. For whatever reason (I'm guessing it has something to do with copyright), nobody gives us that. The Roku is the best of the breed in this bad situation. It's quick enough, with decent enough search, and the variety of content available is better than the other services. In a world populated by nothing but varying degrees of "almost, but..." this is the best it gets.

Roku 3

I expect with the potential for state of the art electronic devices to be easy to set up and easy to use. Roku delivered. It was the easiest electronic device to set up I have experienced, and it is simple to understand and use.
Another great feature is that it is connected to the internet, thus no reaching toward the TV to get the channel to change or volume to change.
I also think the connection for earbuds is simple but revolutionary. Why didn't TV remotes figure this out? It works great for evening when everyone is in bed and I am watching a movie.
Back to the internet connectivity. My son (2 years old) likes the remote too, and one day it was gone. It took me 2 weeks to find it. Luckily Roku has a phone app, and I could manage the Roku seamlessly.
The only drawback is that Roku is on all the time, and it generates allot of heat for a small unit. The heat means constant electricity. Also, if your TV is off and you push Roku buttons randomly you could do something unintended, like buy a movie.
In summary, I hope more electronics are as well designed as Roku.

If you don't have a Smart TV this really helps to get you connected to the world. I use it for Amazon Instant Videos and Netflix and it works great! HD content, surround sound, everything works like a charm.
For the remote I use my smartphone which sometimes gets disconnected and causes annoying problems (like clicking back more than I wanted to) but it's rare.

Easiest way to stream video!

Quick Background on my options:
I have "smart" TV, Xbox 360 that I use as a media extender/streamer, an OUYA running XBMC, a Fire TV, AND a Roku 3. For watching shows and movies, the Roku is our "go to" in our house. It is the EASIEST way to stream Netflix or Amazon Primve instant video. (Both services I use, so keep that in mind as I review.) The remote works great, (no line of sight needed which is AWESOME with a sinister four year old in the house) and the iphone remote app works well also. I know this sounds lazy, but even if we have a show on DVD, we will usually pull it up on Netlix or Prime because the Roku is that much easier, and there's no disc to scratch.
Roku also offers other great channels, our next most watched channel is the Smithsonian institute. A bunch of high quality documentaries and educational material all streaming for free. Adding a channel is as easy as point and click, the channel adds automatically.
If you're like me, you might get a little freaked out that Roku requires (or did at the time of my purchase) a credit card to opent the roku account. All you have to do is supply said card, and then remove it from your account once it's up and running. (I made the mistake of leaving it on once with Microsoft and will NEVER do that again. A four year old can spend alot of money fast.)
In short, it's easy, user friendly, fast, and as long as you're not a "new release" fiend, then Netflix and Prime will do just fine for you. (Also great for Audio! iHeart Radio, and Pandora work great, Tunein is a tad glitchy but still works.)

I can't even remember what life was like before I got my roku. It does everything I need without being tied to one ecosystem (Apple, Android, etc.). The mobile app is good too when you don't want to reach for the remote.
