Underwhelmed

I cancelled my cable and am now just streaming with the Roku. While there are many apps, most are not ones I would use and the majority require a subscription. I don't want to have to manage subscription over subscription over subscription. I want to plug in the Roku. Register ONCE (not for EVERY subscription) and watch. If I were to subscribe to the apps I like, I would be inching close to the cost of the cable I just cancelled.Additionally, many of the apps require cable. Really, most of the point of a unit like this is to move away from cable. It seems contradictory to need cable to access the apps that require it. Would like to see this have internet browsing. Also....Hulu. On my computer I can access Hulu basic, the level that does not require a subscription. On the Roku, it only offers Hulu Plus, which requires a subscription. Again, no way to get to the internet to see Hulu regular or no way to modify the app to not be the Plus. May as well just use my computer and hook it to my TV as a big monitor. By using my computer, I get more functionality and better control.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Still haven't checked out channel on my Roku 3 and have had it for months. Can't imagine how long it will take to check it all out.

Bought in order to eventually dump the dish. So far it's worked well and provides the family with enough TV viewing and entertainment to fully justify the cost, etc.

Lots of power in a tiny device

I purchased mine last month and couldn't be happier. It is incredibly fast when loading things like Netflix and Hulu. There are so many channels to choose from which sets it apart from other devices. Be sure to check online, because there are private channels and others not listed that you can add. For something that fits in the palm of your hand it is absolutely amazing. The picture quality is fantastic as long as you have a decent internet connection. If you want to use HBO Go, Showtime, or take advantage of Watch ESPN, you will need a cable or satellite subscription. But I love mine and will add another once I move.

I bought this about a month ago to see what it could do that my 3 AppleTVs couldn't. They do many of the same things but the Roku 3 clearly has more channels and doesn't appear to restrict channels, such as Showtome, the way Apple does. I get the impression that Apple punishes other companies that don't strike up very one-sided agreements in Apple's favor.

Good-bye Sony BluRay, Hello ROKU-3

I used to have a Sony wifi enabled BluRay. After many months of movies crashing every time we watched one, much time on with Sony tech support, I bought the Samsung version of WiFi Tv. You just plug it into the HMDI port of the TV. That too was a problem. Both Sony and Samsung pointed me toward my internet service provider for resolution. That was incorrect. Now having returned the Samsung model, thrown out the Sony, the ROKU-3 has never crashed, is easy to use and wish I would have purchased it a long time ago. Easy set up, easy to use and it is fast!! Buy it, there is nothing better that I found.

Good for streaming not local files

The roku is awesome if you plan on streaming your files from a server or a web-based streaming service. If you are looking to plug in a hard drive to this device to play local files look at the WD TV Live Plus. Roku does not have the file type support that many movies are converted to.
