Love my Roku!

I spent some time deciding between Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and the Roku. In the end I went with Roku and am quite pleased. I was easy as pie to set up and has apps for the three services I most wanted to use. Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Wireless connection better than wired

At first, I had this connected via ethernet cable to my Airport Extreme router, but I started running into the same "rebuffering" issue I had before trying to stream Netflix through my Blu-ray player. Had just gotten a DOCSIS 3 modem from Comcast to upgrade my old DOCSIS 2 modem, thinking maybe that was the issue, but no, still had rebuffering issues many times per movie, making it impossible to watch anything. Frustrated, and about ready to ditch Comcast but not having any good alternatives, I decided to try connecting my Roku wirelessly. It's fairly easy to switch it over in "Settings", but you do have to type in your wireless network password. Once I changed it from wired to wireless, presto! Everything streamed flawlessly. I couldn't believe the difference. I'm not sure if the Roku is taking advantage of the 802.11ac coming from my Airport Extreme router, but if not, it means that it is running faster on 802.11n than it is on a wired connection! Doesn't make any sense to me, but at least it works, and I can now "Stream Happy" as it says on the Roku box.

Better than paying for cable

You don't get it all but you get a lot. If you didn't know what you are missing with other channels like BET, OWN, or MTV etc then it wouldn't matter. However, ROKU is superb in it's own way but if it ever started offering those popular cable channels then cable companies would automatically suffer overnight! I have enough free channels to last me a lifetime and even if I added 3 or four channels for a fee I am still paying way less than my cable bill. I love the specific special interest channels like foreign language channels, crafts, politics, oh and even Weed Channel! hahaha but i don't smoke

I got the Roku 3 as a gift and it completely turned my life around. I am very happy as I used Roku everyday, and enjoyed watching Netflix with Roku's fastest streaming. I was surprised with a lot of Roku's free channels on Roku 3. I will buy another one for my second TV in the living room.
