Great alternative to cable

I'm very happy with this product. Easy to use and plenty of free shows I like to watch. Many channels require subscription. On rare occasions it has locked up and needed to be reset but it picks up where it left off.
I would recommend this to a friend!

If there is any single piece of technology that will take you watching experience to an 11 on a scale of 10..it is the Roku 3. I love this unit. It is super easy to install even for an old guy that is technologically challenged. Love the ability to use the headsets with it. I will recommend this to all my friends, associates and family. Excellent Christmas or any time present.

Had much difficulty with set up, it took many attempts. Once we finally got it to work, we were able to watch one movie-- and then nothing else would load. If the free items wouldn't work, we were hesitant to buy netflix or hulu plus, as if we were paying for a subscription, and that wouldn't work either, it didn't make any sense.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm not the type to gush over consumer products. I've never written a Yelp review--or any other kind of online endorsement, either. But I'm making an exception here, because, well, read my headline above.
I never "got" the concept of streaming services until my wife bought me the Roku 3 box and a modest flat screen as a combination Father's Day gift this year. (Yeah, I know I'm not her father. Don't get picky.)
We installed them in our converted garage, where I work out almost daily on an elliptical.
OMG, Roku has completely changed the way I think about TV. Of the thousand-plus channels, I cherry-picked more than 60, including many channels screening free movies of every genre (especially my favorite, noir).
Then I went back and began reviewing the entire selection of available channels and found a bunch more I'd enjoy watching. Like TED, which features speeches and appearances at TED events by people whose ideas I'd love to learn more about.
And the price of a Roku Box, even the higher-end one (which we have), is minimal compared to the value you get. There are movies and other things that charge nominal fees. But even if I never paid to watch a movie or series on Roku, I'd quite literally never run out of free content. It's a bottomless well of fun.
So I'm a Roku convert. Thanks so much for a game-changing source of great programming.

Forget streaming Blu ray players!

After retiring a few streaming blu-ray players, as their firmware aged and couldn't keep up with Netflix and Hulu's technical changes, I gave up up and got a Roku. It's much faster, works with any app and reliably streams. The earplugs for the remote are excellent quality too. That's a genius feature so as not to disturb others. I'll be buying more!
