I bought the Roku because I dropped cable. Some of the channels require you have a cable subscription like Watch ESPN. If I had a cable subscription, I wouldn't have bought the Roku... Very good for all other aspects ! Speed is very good, hookup was super easy, controls are simple.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fantastic Addition to our TV viewing

I bought this to be able to watch netflix but have found so many fantastic channels that we watch it more then regular satellite. My Dad, who is 84, has so enjoyed YouTube that we are now having a YouTube hour in the afternoon. We are learning more and more about the different channels that are available. The only things that could make it better is if you could have a browser available to go onto the internet and to be able to use a wireless keyboard for typing in the searches. Love that you can link your tablet to YouTube it makes it so much easier to type in the search info.

Almost a complete system

Not a bad system but in order to watch anything you have to subscribe to it. which means more money. If you want to watch a series of shows you have to select the show every time. You can not just leave it on one channel and just let it play. I have the Roku Box in my lobby at work. Every 30min. to 1 hour depending on show I have to go in to the lobby to turn something else on. Kind of annoying. I want to be able to leave it on one channel and just let it play all day long.

Wish I would have bought this before Apple TV

I bought Apple TV a few months ago, and was generally happy with its performance. Except that it didn't have a good way to watch Vudu movies. Oh well, I thought, at least I can use Apple TV to show stuff on my iPad to the TV. Roku has my full Vudu library, is Amazon-compatible, and can show stuff from my iPad. AppleTV takes hours to transfer movies to itself to then broadcast...Roku does this with no wait time.
Setup was easy (took about 15 minutes from power-on to ensuring I had everything set up for good.
I like the headphone jack in the remote. Wouldn't have thought it important, but since a lot of my Roku watching is while soothing/feeding a crying baby late at night, it's nice to not disturb anyone else.
Good product, reasonably intuitive interface. I like it.

I bought my roku 3 a few months ago. It is a life saver. I stopped having to pay for cable, kicked out direct tv. Everyone else charges too much for entertainment on the television. For the cost of one month of direct tv I purchased a roku 3 and am not looking back
At first it took a while to learn how to get the most out of the channels but I have added great channels on top of the existing ones and it's great. I also have an apple tv, it isn't even half the product the roku is.
Buy this for your family and spend the money on a vacation
