Okay, but there are some issues...

We're generally enjoying the Roku, but there are a few things that are troubling. The Roku uses a wifi signal to communicate between the box and the remote, and it made it difficult for my son to use his ipad with our whole house wifi. I read on a forum that other people had had this problem with using an ipad and having the Roku on at the same time. Another thing is that we have not figured out how to just turn the Roku off without physically unplugging it. It seems like there must be some other way to turn it off, but we haven't figured it out yet. The box gets warm and seems to be drawing power even when not actively being used. There might be some simple way to do this, but it is not intuitively obvious how to do it.

At first it felt like I was breaking up with my boyfriend. Attached to cable for over 20 years, took me 3 months to let go. But I sure am glad I did. I love Roku! I think it will be my new partner for life =)

Great TV Alternative

I purchased this a couple of months ago and my first surprise was the remote. It was quite a disappointment, because of how simple it was. I was used to multi-function remotes with a hundred keys and options, and this one has a grand total of 11 keys, with 2 additional ones to control attachable headphones.
I now love this little remote, where it will do all I want, but i can use it in the dark without looking or thinking.
Setting this up was so easy. I opened the box, followed the instructions, and was using it in less than 10 minutes!!
I was a little disappointed with the free channels available through Roku, mostly those that advertise as free, but they mean free to watch a show or two, and then $$$, but have now found enough that I thoroughly enjoy this little item. I still would like to see more, and am so cheap that I refuse to pay for most items as yet.
I would say, however, that I have given up a $135.00 per month Dish system, and have not missed it a bit. I have replaced it with a $12 per month bill that gets me 95% of what i actually watched before!

Am enjoying it

I have been enjoying my Roku 3 very much. I don't get very many TV stations over the air and I've never felt I should be charged for something that's free. With my Roku I can watch most of my tv shows I just have to wait till after they've aired to view them. It is not a perfect system, though and that should be understood. Using the Roku is not as simple as turning your tv on and changing the channels. You must become familiar with the different channels and how to navigate them. It takes some time to get used to and to learn your way around some things. Often setting things up on your computer is quicker and easier than going through the Roku, but once done you can watch on your Roku on your TV. My biggest disappointment, though, was that I had read info about Roku 3 being able to stream from an apple device which excited me because I have movies on my iPod that I have to connect with a cable to watch. So I thought I'd be able to ditch the cable - not so. Understand that as of right now I can only stream videos and pictures from my gallery, NOT downloaded movies from iTunes OR movies I've backed up. As mentioned this was disappointing. I am hopeful that down the road Roku will become more user friendly and that more networks will have channels with easy access to their shows. I also want to note that a few times in the past couple months I've had to reset my remote because it has lost connection with the Roku box. I don't know why as the batteries are fine and the remote was never removed from the room. I should also mention that I recently used a 1 month free trial of Netflix and watching streaming movies through the Roku was so easy. I also had 2 free movie rentals when I bought the Roku and it was so simple to use.

The Roku 3 is easy to use, setup and does everything I wanted. If you are seeking a way to steam content thru your TV then Roku is the way to go.

Greatest Device Purchase Ever!

I purchased my Roku 3 about a month ago. This is hands down the greatest device purchase I have ever made as it pack so much functionality into such a compact design. The Roku has brought new life to my Slingbox, it has revolutionized how I relax at home, and overall just made me an absolutely happy guy! Everything plus live streaming news from 24 hour news channels such as Sky, RT, MHz, Euronews, and even the Roku Newscaster which features content from news sources all over the World. I also credit Roku for enhancing my viewing experience on YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, HBO GO, Showtime Anytime, and even the newly launched WWE Network. I can also plug my external hard drive into my Roku device in order to view videos and listen to music files downloaded from my other devices via the Roku Media Player app. Regarding Roku, Yeah, I am a fan!

The Roku 3 has been great with the streaming applications that we use. For example the PLEX media server and Netflix. Because of my experience with the Roku 3 I pre-ordered the Roku® Streaming Stick™. The only thing that I don't like is that we can't see NASCAR on it.

Many advertised channels require cable subsription

Very handy and versatile and saves wear and tear on PS3 for streaming. The biggest negative is that it advertises over 130 channels but many of them require a cable subscription. If I had a cable subscription, I wouldn't need the Roku!
