Connection Needs a Little Tweaking

Using my phone's hot spot's "Security" connection, the unit will not connect. It recognizes, but will not connect. Disabling the "Security" mode and going to "Open" connection allows it to enable.
Other than that, quite impressed with the function/ease of use of the product. The Support folks were good, the "wait" was a little long, but not too bad.

Eliminates the need for a cable box for your tv. Just connect to the internet either hard wire or wireless, and you have a ton of options. I can see in the future people discontinuing cable and just streaming on the internet with Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime instant videos

I was a bit skeptical at first. But I decided to take a chance. I am very happy that I did. I am able to view all of my videos from my computer and get the best channels that Roku has to offer. My Netflix never played better.

Amazing little box

I've been wanting to get out of high-priced cable for awhile now. I'd negotiated as low as I could go, but further negotiation ended up with outlandish pricing for less services! So I went all the way down to just the internet and let them have everything else back.
I had heard about "the Roku box" but had no idea what a Roku was so I did some research. I read reviews both professional and personal, and THEN I went to the Roku site to see which one I really wanted. I figured since I was jumping all the way into cord-cutting land, I should get the best bang for my buck so I got a Roku3. The first thing I thought when I opened the box was "this thing is TINY!" It was barely bigger than my mouse (gaming). I found hooking it up to be very easy and had read about the "interruption" to the TV setup to log into the Roku site to register, but found the dual registration online and on the TV screen to be non-complicated. I didn't time it, but I was done with it in about 20 minutes give or take.
Then fun began. At first, I set everything up on the Roku site thinking it would show up on my box...but don't do that! It doesn't work that way. So I had to go to the TV screen and set up the channels I wanted to see. Here's where the time-taking comes in. There are so many channels to go through that I spent a good 2-3 hours just looking at them all, and still didn't finish! I would like to say right here that the Roku3 remote control is great! I've never seen a remote with a place for headphones (that is revolutionary!) and then they give you headphones too. I was very pleased with that. The other thing that I love, love, love about this remote and the system is that you can be upstairs in the bedroom, the TV downstairs and you can change the channel (yes, I did) and do everything with it else as well. I was amazed again.
So there's more than enough channels to choose from and I can say with much certainty that no matter what you like to watch, you'll be able to find it on your Roku. I subscribed to Hulu Plus and once I found the classic TV channels (Twilight Zone, Adam-12, All in the Family, Good Times, etc., etc.) it was pretty much over. But I did venture out into Public TV, Discovery, Westerns and the like. So there's really no shortage of things to see. Now I will say coming off of "live TV" to Roku takes an adjustment. I found that I miss the news (odd, I never really watched it), and the feeling of "my show is about to come on!" But I'm getting over that - I do stream the news on my computer when I get that particular urge. There are current shows available, but I'm not a big fan of many of the current shows. There are sports, but nothing current. I am having a hard time with that one, but am looking into some other internet options for that. Soon, I will be well rounded.
Overall, I'd say my Roku experience has been tremendous! The little black and purple box has got it all and is MORE than worth the investment. I'd say I got over for the price they ask for. I have also never had a remote with an wrist band...didn't understand that until I played Angry Birds in Space. Yep, need that wrist band. Yes, you can play games. I wish I'd known about Roku long ago. If you are thinking about taking the plunge, I say take it. You won't regret it and your wallet will thank you.

I was actually looking for a Roku II so I could use the comp. connections but was offered this at the same price since I reserved the former and it was sold by the time I got there. Hooked through the HDMI, picture is awesome and the speed is nothing short of amazing. I also have a NeoTV and the Roku just blows away that hardware. I started looking for a player when my buddy got his chromecast. the Roku is not as limited and add to that you can use as a repeater, I am very happy.

Goodbye cable. Roku does everything it's supposed to do. There's a huge selection of channels, but many show pretty much the same stuff. I have Hulu plus and Netflix, which is enough for me. Other specialty channels are available for a subscription fee. Overall I'm happy with the Roku. I like the headphone jack in the remote feature. My only complaints have to do with Hulu navigation and functionality, which really have nothing to do with Roku.
