Great Overall

I bought this a while ago and just hooked it up a month ago. I like what`s available so far, am still trying to figure out how to use it with my Dish setup! The internet hook up was a breeze though. It`s a great product.

I purchased 2 Roku 3's as a first step for cutting the cored from cable TV. I only have Amazon Prime subscription currently but will add Netflix and Hulu Plus when I cancel the cable. I like that it has a Plex media server channel so I can stream videos stored on the PC. I also use the SimpleTV channel to access and play DVR recordings to the TV as the DVR device will not connect directly to a TV. The Roku turns any TV into a smart TV. I have been disappointed in most of the free channels. Many require you to have a cable TV account and most are not supported by my cable provider, Comcast. Requiring a cable account means that none of the channels that do work will be available if i cancel Cable. This is not a rub on Roku as I don't think they have much control over this. The Roku is very simple to use and that is a big plus for my non-technical spouse.

I've had this for awhile and I am very happy with it. I love all the options for programming that it gives in one consolidated environment. There are issues that I have with this product, however, they may be unwarranted and I WAS able to "work-around" them. ROKU explains in the documentation that there is no "off" switch and explains the positive aspects of that. I however do not like the idea of having a constant "open network". I believe this creates an opportunity for the "malware community" etc. etc. to due their harm on my open network. Also, is it a good idea for an electronic item to be running constantly? Won't it wear out sooner? I don't know... However, I did two things: 1 - I bought a remote control (outlet plug-in) for my Smart TV and my ROKU. 2 - I bought a AB network switcher for my Ethernet connections for both. So, now I can shut off the units with the remote when not in use and I can switch between the ROKU and TV network connections (AB switcher)so that both are not "on" at the same time. I believe this gives me slightly more network speed.
I am not an expert, so, do not rely on what I have had to say. I do thank ROKU for making such a cool product for such a reasonable price! I'm getting a ROKU 1 for an older TV I have too...

I've looked at the ROKU since it's first incarnation (ROKU 1), and in that time owned several other streaming media boxes (built an HTPC running windows media center, Boxee Box, and most recently a Western Digital HDTV live). I was continually hesitant to try the ROKU due to concerns of being able to play local media through it (despite 80% of my use being netflix/pandora/youtube).
I should have bought the ROKU 3 a year ago - it's FAST, more stable (but not 100% perfect) than any other box I've had, and somehow the smallest yet! Build quality is nice, it's intuitive to learn, price is great for what you get.
With the new android app I'm playing my music from my phone more than ever -it's awesome. With the USB port on the side I just throw my moves on a USB stick when I need to watch a move from my local collection - not perfect but not that bad. If ROKU could put out a program for windows with the same functionality as the android app I would be buying two extra ROKU 3s in case anything ever happened to mine. It's that good.

A Roku for Every TV in the House

We have used several streamers in various devices and none have performed at the level of our Roku. Everything from the interface to the selection of channels has exceeded our expectations and led my wife to suggest getting a Roku for every TV in our house.

Easy Access

We purchased Roku 3 from Walmart. It is absolutely great. The variety is amazing and the channels are easy to access once you establish the connection. There are a lot of free channels. Netflix is greast as is the Christian programming!
