I got my Roku in January 2014 as a birthday present. I had had my eye on Chromecast, so I was a bit hesitant, but I love it! It's easy to access the apps that I use all the time, like Netflix and Hulu Plus, and I've found some others I'm interested in. I've had minor connectivity issues, but I think that's my home internet more so than the Roku itself. The one thing is that I haven't figured out a way to stream what's on my laptop or tablet onto the Roku, other than YouTube which has an add-on to do so. I've found this would be nice a couple times when people had sent me non YouTube videos, I couldn't find a way to put them on screen. But, a minor inconvenience for all the awesomeness it offers!

Good box, but still a compromise

The Roku 3 works as advertised. However, we were forced to choose the model 3 because we didn'
t want wireless, and it was the only current model with an ethernet connector. We would have preferred the option of using other outputs besides HDMI. So, even though Roku gives you freedom from the clutches of the cable company, it also forces you - unnecessarily - to choose between narrow options.

Freezes when playing MKVs

I bought a roku for using on 3 scenarios: Netflix vídeos, local USB media play and Mediabrowser3 client. As for Netflix I cannot even add the channel as it is not supported on my region (Brazil). Playing MKVs will eventually freeze the device and cause a restart, also captions doesn't support accented characters like "á" or "ç". As a mediabrowser3 client device seems to work ok.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Roku makes it easy to access and navigate all your favorite channels and watch lists. If you can't find what you're looking for Roku will find it for you.

Roku3 Works Great

I got it for Christmas and works great wit most all on-line services and is less expensive than most decent blue-ray players
