Good if when it works.

I bought roku 3 in October after cancelling my cable. I enjoyed the little box thru November and December in mid January it began freezing up. Now its rebooting every time I try to use it, its hard to enjoy if it doesnt work. I have heard about many others with the same issues sounds like a defect to me.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Addition to My TV

Buying this Roku 3 allowed me to eliminate $30 from my cable bill. It paid for itself in just 3 months. I can now watch Netflix on my old flat screen and I'm able to expand my content with free channels or if I want I can add some subscriber services. My choice!

Great Little Device

I bought the Roku 3 at the beginning of January 2014 to put in my bedroom. I don't have cable, so getting netflix and PBS was a nice addition. The video quality is great, even on my 3mps DSL that typically runs slowly. I wish the basic networks would stream for free rather than through Hulu, and I wish Roku would strike a deal with HBO to allow HBOgo without a cable subscriptions. Also, I wish the remote would control to the volume on the tv.

Owning this is much better than paying for cable or satellite in my opinion, it has so much things on it it watch. It's easy to use and set up as well

provided some minor alterations are made. The Roku 3 would be a real cable/satellite company killer (and it's about time) if it could incorporate the following: 1. The ability to recognize more music/movie formats (like the WD TV Live)
2. Play your stored media directly via your network, rather than have to rely on a third party app like Plex (again like the WD TV).
3. More audio options (dedicated optical, RCA R&L)
4. Backward compatibility for video (RCA out)
5. Provide more QUALITY FREE channels. Anything worth anything (channel or game) is subscription/paid only. Still cheaper and better than cable/satellite tv though!

Like I said earlier, those are relatively minor niggles, but it never hurts to make a great product even better...right?
I have "fired" my greedy satellite tv provider as of 6 months ago, and never looked back since. Products such as Roku truly herald the new era of entertainment. Keep up the good work Roku!!

Should Have Bought the Roku Unit Months Ago

I bought the Roku as an early Xmas gift to myself, I should have bought it months ago. It's a tiny unit that will fit just about anywhere, but it is packed with capability.
Previously I streamed Netflix through an LG DVD player and had numerous problems with the LG. Lip-sync was a major problem with the LG, the sound never matched the lip movement. Slowness to load or "fast" forward/rewind was also painfully slow, as was searching for TV programs to stream. Sometimes it didn't work at all until I re-booted the unit.
The story is exactly the opposite with the Roku player, it's quick to load, the lip-sych is bang-on and fast forward/rewind works great: it gives me better vision so I can stop the action just where I want to. Picture quality is also great, though I have noticed that for the first few seconds it's not quite as good, perhaps that's to do with it still downloading the last of the "picture information".
Although the Roku unit has much more capability, so far I have only used it to stream Netflix and it's been well worth it's price just to do that. It's been operating flawlessly for 6 weeks now and I'm extremely happy that I bought the Roku: I just should have done it much earlier. Time will tell me more about it's longevity.

It's great if it worked

Bought it a month ago it worked for a week then it would display a message about unauthorized content I have since bought a roku 2. Buy the roku 2 and save your money
