I have had it for a few weeks and have dumped the cable,,,,,,,Saving me a lot of money,, simple enough for a techno challenged person like myself..I wish they put the search on top of You tube..a few channels do not stream,, docucrama never works nor does CNN international...I wish they added new things more often tho...

I was a reluctant buyer having purchased high tech products in the past only to find out my 69 year old brain was not up to par with the new product. Took it out of the box, hooked it up and it worked. We've enjoyed streaming movies & series since hour one.

I have been using this device on a 52" flat panel 1080P TV for about a month and half. It replaced a WD TV Live + device I used for several years, primarily to watch Netflix shows. I purchased one after installing a Roku 3 for a relative, and was impressed with quick and simple connection and registration process went and the performance. You will have give Roku a credit card number, a password and an email address - this is needed if you decide to buy any apps from their app store. Its reception of a wifi signal from an adjacent room over a distance of 10 feet was flawless compared to the former hardwire hookup. My setup allowed for a direct Ethernet connection so I didn't bother with a wifi hookup. Transition from cable TV to Internet entertainment apps is much faster than with the WD TV Live + device, about 5-10 times faster. Roku provides a fairly large selection of free or paid apps to choose from, and I believe it has the capacity to add new apps as they may become available. I added two free apps: You Tube and Weather Underground. It was a simple process to do so and both work fine. Mainly, it's used just for Netflix, which connects much quicker than the WD Live device. Also, in the months prior to the changeover, the WD Live device failed to work on at least two occasions. I was able to fix by disrupting power to the device for a period of time. I noticed the Roku 3 has a button that will reset the device but haven't needed to try it.

We purchased at Christmas. We had a Roku 3 and was happy, but the new Roku 5 is faster and clearer. It is a great up grade
