Perfect answer to high cable bill

I got my Roku 3 a few months ago when trimmings expenses. I cut way back on cable, keeping my internet. I was able to hook my Roku up to my television myself, it was so easy. I already subscribed to Netflix, but was unprepared for the multiple channels available. I especially love Pandora, which is free and my first experience with it. I love the search feature on Roku home. enter any movie or actor and it searches all the channels for you. One drawback is I did not realized you had to pay extra for movies. Some channels you can join like Netflix, but often, still have to pay extra for movie. However, what you pay for movie is still cheaper than ordering movie on cable demand. I am totally happy with my Roku 3 choice. Catt

Easy to set up

Setting up and joining the wifi network was easy. Channel selection and quality of video is excellent, thanks in part to 30mg cable internet. Searching YouTube via the remote is however, inconvenient.

The best (so far)

I have been through a number of iterations of internet connected players and this is the best so far. I use a Plex Media Server for my local content and found nothing that the Roku does not play. Not true for my Samsung, Toshiba, and WD playing devices. I am using the Roku through a wired gigabit local connection so everything is very smooth. And the Roku 3 out performs all the other models easily.
The Roku also plays most application related content with ease--I use it particularly to receive WatchESPN broadcasts from a TWC subscription (mostly live) and it plays in HD quality without a hitch. Also use Netflix on the Roku with outstanding performance
And of course the icing on the cake is the headphone jack in the remote. No doubt this will become a standard design if anyone wants to compete.

Great alternative to cable

I bought this to take advantage of access I already had to movies via Amazon Prime and HBOGO. I can seldom find anything that interests me on Time-Warner. And it is nicer to watch on the big screen. Even my technology-averse husband is able to navigate with the simple remote. When our cable went out for several days, we were still able to watch movies.
