I was caught up into the Apple Hype as I own and iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Well I had decided that I should branch out and give some other things a try and I will say that I made one incredible of a decision. The Roku is such a great device. It has many many channels and features that the Apple TV does NOT have. You can customize it in so many different ways and to me, it is the best Smart Feature box especially if you're looking to become a "Cord Cutter" Once the cable networks begin to offer their channels on the smart devices, I will completely get rid of cable.

I bought this product about a month ago because I was having streaming problem with my dvd player's built in wi fi. For the most part I am satisfied with the performance of the device although sometimes it takes a while to load some materials. Don't know if it's the provider or the device( I have high end dsl service). Another thing that I have noticed is a lot of apps that offer free streaming is not included in this device. And the quality of streaming is not always good.

Not what I expected in both good and bad ways

It has a lot more channels than I expected, which is nice. The connection to the internet works great. The picture quality is great. I'm sure the other special features specific to the Roku 3 are good too, but I don't care as much about those.
I got this as well as a Roku 2 for non-HD TV's in other rooms, to get rid of DirecTV and just use these, with of course subscribing to Netflix, HuluPlus, and Amazon Prime primarily, which I watch through the Roku. I don't pay for any other channels, unless I'm renting a movie on a different one. My disappoint is because when I initially looked up my favorite TV shows, it looked like they're all covered through these channels and the Roku. BUT, that's not actually the case. It turns out that a few of them don't even have full episodes, only clips. And a good portion of the others can't be watched on the Roku. I have to watch them on the computer on Hulu's website, because it's something to do with the rights, they're only allowed to be shown on the computer, not on tablets or TV devices. So that's really inconvenient. A lot of the channels on the Roku as well require a subscription to a TV provider in order to work and access the content. Fortunately, I can use my parents' account, but if I didn't have that, the channels would be even more limiting.
One more thing that I found annoying...I can use my one Roku account for both my Roku 3 and my Roku 2. BUT, even though both are logged into the same account, I have to login to all the channels separately on each Roku. They don't read each other or sync with each other at all, even though they're both logged in with the same account information. What I'm trying to say is, if I'm already logged into the Disney Junior Channel through my account on one, why do I have to login again on the other? Why doesn't it save that information on the account for all devices used?
Oh, it's also annoying to me that on the Roku 3, I can change user profiles in Netflix, but on the Roku 2, it won't let me change the user profile. It just automatically logs into the main one, and you can't switch to any of the other ones.
Still, I don't regret my purchases, and I'm still cancelling DirecTV next week. I think this is the future. People are going to be dumping cable and switching to devices like this or watching their favorite shows online. I'm sure that more channels will be added, and more content will become available for the Roku/TV versions of these channels, and the connections, like from one Roku to another, will improve. I'm sure it will only improve. And I can't rationalize spending over $100 a month on cable anymore, which I mostly don't need, when I can pay around $25 a month for Hulu, Amazon Prime and Netflix to watch utilizing the Roku's, and I can still see, in some way, most of my favorite shows. Pay to rent movies (no different from before). And I can buy season passes of other favorite shows and still pay less than a cable subscription. So it's not as good as I thought it would be, but it's still worth the change, and it'll only get better, I'm sure.

I have bought Roku a month ago and found the content really good. There are lot of good content, though most of what I would like to see are subscription based. I already have few of those subscription, so its fine. Its not yet a replacement for Cable (not prime news streaming) and most good movie channels are paid subscription. Compared to apple TV, I find this better. I found the Remote's battery life extremely poor - probably because I use headphones on it once in a while. I am with the 3rd set of batteries (I use Enrgizer Max - one of the best batteries). I probably would not have used headphones more than 6 - 8 hours total till date.

Like the player, do not like the new programming

I just upgraded from Roku2 to the Roku3 player. Installation was more troublesome and I do not care for the new way the program titles are displayed. Too much background and not enough about the program and the blocks are so small. Also if you watch a series, it starts the next one in 18 seconds and doesn't even give you time to read what it will be about.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
