Almost all that I expected

I love all the video apps. My issues are that there is no keyboard for it. This makes it extremely difficult to search for videos.

Not worth twice the cost of the Roku 1

I bought a Roku 1 a few months ago and really like it a lot. The access to Amazon Prime Instant Video as well as the other apps makes it a worthwhile investment. I wanted another for a different location and liked the fact that the '3' has the headset that plugs into the remote and the wired Ethernet port option. They also claim a "five times faster processor" which may be true but I don't see any difference in performance (which is just fine on the '1'). The only setup issue was that the included batteries for the remote were dead costing 1 star on the ease of setup rating since setup shouldn't require a meter to test the batteries.
Aside from the headphone jack on the remote, I actually prefer the remote that comes with the '1' but it's not a huge difference. The earbuds included are awful - a cheap throwaway like the ones the airlines hand out for free. They couldn't possibly have cost Roku more than two bits. You'll want to use the better ones you have for your music player or buy some.
The lousy headphones and dead batteries are minor inconveniences that are easily solved but the last issue has no solution. When the headphones are plugged into the remote the sound is cut from the HDMI output so there is no sound to the speakers. While it makes perfect sense to cut the speakers off for private listening there should be an option to leave them on. In my case, I prefer to listen with earbuds for better dialog clarity while my wife is fine with the speakers. The earbuds also let me listen at a louder level without blasting the speakers at levels others find uncomfortable. Hopefully this can be added in a future firmware revision.

My TV now does things I never imagined

Stop what you're doing and buy a Roku 3. I had no idea that a cuboid black puck could bring so much joy to my life. It installed effortlessly, and now lets me watch YouTube, Hulu etc. on a giant flat screen instead of a stupid little laptop display. And the choices! My goodness. The free channels alone are enough to justify the purchase. Everything from Bahamian news to amateur cable access from little towns across our great land. The one channel that runs the 1950s-era safety videos is amazing. Kids, never get in a car with a stranger or you'll end up like...well, I won't spoil it for you.
You must buy this little device. If you don't, you're denying your TV's HDMI output the ability to know what it's truly capable of. Are you that kind of person?

When scrolling thru the endless movie lists, it would be helpful to display how many in that category. Than it would be easy to find again. There are a couple of other items but cannot think of them now.

My brother in law bought the roku 2 and showed me what it could do. I never forgot it, so when I saw the roku 3 and saw it had a head phone jack which is exactly what I needed so as not to bother anyone while they sleep, am very happy with it, bought some Bose OE headphones just for it the sounds comes out perfect. LOVE IT. Thanks Jaime.
