I love my Roku3!  Easy to set up and use on a daily basis.  Love watching movies, TV series and listen to music on my Roku.  If you DVR your programs and watch them later then try Roku and save some money.  You won't be disappointed.

Great machine with a small problem

I got my unit a month ago to stream TWC and amazon prime.  The processor on the Roku 3 is VERY fast, and the menu system is terrific.  The TWC app is great, with a flyout, channel labels, etc., love, love.  There were only two problems for me.  I have an LED tv but like to watch older shows, and if I play a dvd/blu ray the tv takes care of changing the size, so that most of the time I don't have to fiddle with the picture size.  On the Roku, I found myself having to change picture size constantly.  So, for instance, if I'm watching Murder She Wrote, it would be square and need to be bumped.  Then you'd switch during the commercial to watch something else and have it to big.  Streaming the original Star Trek on amazon had the same problem.  That was mainly an annoyance, not necessarily a deal-breaker, but it makes sense to me why people kept mentioning wanting an ancillary remote that had the picture size button.
The other thing, which did turn out to be a deal breaker for me, was that the roku 3, even when you're using wired ethernet and a different remote, creates it's own hotspot.  Wifi gives me headaches, which is why I had waited all this time for the Roku 3.  I thought that if I just switched out to a different remote (infrared) I'd be fine.  Nope, after a couple days walking around feeling bad, we finally figured it out.
We ended up returning the roku, and I'm so bummed about it.  I LOVED the roku, all the features, the fast processor, the add-on channels, etc.  Now we're back to streaming with our Wii, which is pokey slow.  I'm probably going to buy a new dvd player to stream that way.  If Roku would make a unit that was wired and with the ability to turn the hot spot off, I'd buy again in a heartbeat.

I asked for this for my birthday because it seemed to be a nice alternative to a smart tv. It is wonderful! The price is more than fair for this product and you get soo much! I like to use my Roku 3 for Youtube, Netflix, and yoga videos. There are just soo many options and I promise you will not be disappointed by this! Its also great because you can add more storage and even put a video on a usb and watch it from your Roku! Setup is very easy, as is the navigation of the device. Its just all around wonderful!

Mostly good - a few drawbacks

Access to apps is great on this device, however, a keyboard remote would be great.  Also, limited ability to play local media off USB or MicroSD for example, Plex support is nice but many formats are not supported.  If I can't find something on Netflix or Hulu I like to be able to torrent a movie and play it - I can still plug a laptop in for that but if I could use Plex or a thumb drive with an .avi on it that would be great.  The APP for the phone could be better, it's basically a soft version of the actual remote with the ability to use your phones keyboard.  But since you have to look at the thing to be able to hit the navigation buttons it kinda sucks as a remote. Overall though, way better than GoogleTV or AppleTV.  Also, the ability to cast YouTube from a phone or tablet is awesome... I watch a lot of YouTube.

I bought this primarily to watch Netflix on Unsmart televisions. It has been a joy for that and much more. Great channel availability. Super easy setup.

Great Alternative to Cable

I recently joined the cord cutting revolution by investing in an antenna and Roku and canceling cable TV.  We are saving money and love the convenience of watching shows on our time without worrying about setting the DVR.  There are still some things we have to either watch live with the antennae or on the computer (the Olympics, CBS shows, The Bachelor, and American Idol are what we've discovered so far, I'm curious to find out about Project Runway and Dallas).  There are some options to buy individual episodes through Roku, though, for some.
We primarily use it with Hulu+ and my son likes PBS Kids.  We've tried both Amazon prime and Netflix, but found that Hulu+ gives us the most variety of what we're looking for.  We might supplement with a month of Netflix here or there.
Most of the other channels Roku boasts to provide aren't very impressive.  Many of the channels require a cable provider login to access actual content anyone would care to watch.  I've tried some of the exercise channels and they seem to either be limited in free content or freeze up.  The only thing I really got to work smoothly for free was a kids yoga routine.  The only other channel we have used a lot so far during our first month is YouTube.
It's nice to be able to pull up videos on my laptop and have them play on the TV instead (this actually works well for exercise...pulling up zumba videos on YouTube was better than what I found on the free fitness channels).  The YouTube channel also allows me to use my computer for other things while watching the video.
It's convenient that the remote doesn't need to be aimed at the TV, like a traditional remote.  It also comes with headphones that can plug into the remote, which automatically mutes the TV.  I didn't think we'd use this feature, but it is nice if you're wandering around the house a little bit and don't want to pause the TV or if someone in the room is on the phone or watching/listening to something else.
Aside from some disappointment about the hundreds of channels the Roku provides, we're very happy with the switch.  It's more than worth the cost savings.  If you like to watch live sports, you should definitely keep a basic cable package or get an antenna.

We are so happy with our ROKU. I was thinking at first getting Apple TV and it did not nearly have the channels available. They lose this battle. We bought 2 ROKU units.

One Of Best/Simplist Technology

I absolutely love this little dynamite piece of technology. Whoever designed did an amazing job at keeping it one of the best user friendly products ever! Thousands of channels with easy access and one remote. Maybe the one con to it is the volume on the remote only controls levels for headphones. Hopefully they could make that doable on the next version or an updated remote. Still worth all five stars and 10 if I could give it! Thank you Roku! Many Blessings!
