We bought the Roku for a mountain retreat. There is cable there, but very fuzzy and spotty. However the tv we have the roku on does not connect to the cable. We also have wireless internet via a phone line there. With the Roku we are able to get crystal clear pictures and so many choices of shows and movies to watch. I only wish it could also get regular tv channels for current news reports and shows.

More than worth it

In the 30 days that my family has owned and used the Roku 3 we have enjoyed the many features available. Installation is very simple and easy, setup is quick, just have a computer near by so you can activate your account - saves running to the computer to activate.
Only complaint is the unit can not be turned off, so after you are finished using Roku make sure you go to the home screen (just push the Home Button). Prevents accidentally continuing to stream content and eating bandwidth. I would recommend Roku 3

i have the ATV, and i bought this because it didn't have Pandora, plus many other channels. i don't use the ATV anymore. the Roku also has a better site for netflix, etc. for selecting movies. more info w/the title, so you don't have to keep pressing the buttons on the remote to gain info.

A lot pack into a small package. I have a WD unit hooked up on another TV. The WD can be configured a little more technical speaking. For example,on the WD visualize graphically or in detail. I noticed when playing music from my server, that the Roku only allow you to listen to the song, but not navigate away from the screen. With the WD drive I can listen and navigate anywhere within the music interface and the home interface while music plays.
I have not seemed to have any problem so far with video files. The interface is fast, quicker than the WD. I think the remote is pretty slick also, especially with the earphone jack. It is like Apple, but without the proprietary nuances.
I would recommend to others, forget paying Cable companies charging monthly for garbage channels and looped TV. Buy once, and enjoy.

This product wasn't what we thought it was. Only benefit was getting NETFLIX. Felt that paying $100.00 just to access this was too much. Some of the free titles in your movie categories are too old. Not current. Nothing was of any interest to our children (ages 6 & 12).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Suprised by the amount of free channels

I bought this after arguing with the cable company about charging an additional fee for hooking up another TV. Boy am I glad I did. Many more free channels than I ever expected and the picture quality is wonderful. It was very easy to hook up Roku and download the channels. The only thing that kept it from being a 5 star rating is the commercial interuptions during viewing. But I suppose they need to get the programming cost somewhere.

Bought this couple months ago... overall great device...some channels painfully slow downloading and ongoing buffering but no fault of Roku... definitely beats odd free channel on Expressvu that I have only had on my TV for couple years now thanks
