Better playback of web-based tv content than my PC

I decided to cancel cable TV service, upgrade my broadband speed, and buy a Roku-3 to use along side my Terk HDTV antenna as well as my 2013 Mac Mini (with i5 CPU). All of these are hooked into my 5.1 surround-sound A/V receiver and my 50 inch Panasonic HDTV. I have a MOCA to 100Mbps Ethernet adapter as an uplink to a 100Mbps switch for the Roku and Mac. I have 35Mbps down/20Mbps up broadband service. Resulting picture quality is excellent, and setup was easy. Accessing content is immediate. I like the fact the remote uses wifi rather than IR or BT (although it is a bit odd to see the new Roku AP listed in my available networks).
Surprisingly, playback of various web-based TV content - like PBS shows - works better on the Roku than on the Mac (off of the PBS.org website). The user interface is very easy to use - such as the portals into Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime.The kids love the angry birds game option (which was a surprise to me it was there) - the remote control has a motion controller.
The only surprises are the various cable-lockouts on various services - like Watch ESPN, NBC Sports, etc. Despite the UI to make it as easy as possible ... I have to toggle over to the Mac to stream the same content (e.g. watch the live feed from Australian Open from the ausopen.org website provided by ESPN rather than directly from ESPN!). Push comes to shove I watch the sports over the air using the Terk antenna instead (e.g. the Superbowl, Olympics). If you have cable service is probably isn't a problem (as I believe they auto-detect your service provider in that case).

Great device

TWC app gives me high def. tv and the ESPN app gives different games than those on regular ESPN. Cool apps. Greatly improves my viewing experience considering I only have standard cable with NO box.

This fixed my buffering problem

I fought for about a year with Sony, Comcast and Netflix trying to figure out why at busy times, my netflix wouldn't work at all, or buffer every 30 seconds. I was trying to run it through a Sony BluRay player. I think that Comcast is throttling the Netflix content, but the Roku3 has a big enough processor to make it work. I'm still mad at Comcast for throttling, but at least I finally can watch a movie!

Nice purchase. Works well with Netflix. The only con about this is that it does not with our HBOGO through DirectTV. When trying to setup the HBOGO on the Roku, they don't provide DirectTV as one of the cable services. I read on other forums that this is a Roku issue so I hope it can be fixed.

Best streaming device

Roku is definetly a lider besides set-top boxes. There is still room for improvement, though. The other thing is the content. I'd love to use on demand video, but so far traditional TV providers have much more to offer. I wish some day it changes and all content providers add their channels to Roku and give same content as they give to the TV providers.

Better than expected

This little guy is amazing. It has all the features one could want in a streaming devise and can easily be moved from one room to another to bring streaming to any TV. I would recommend the Roku 3 to anyone. You will not be disappointed. I especially like the ear bud feature which connects to the remote.
