HDCP Unauthorized

Our TV will flash a purple screen with HDCP Unauthorized written on it periodically while video is playing. This is happens if the cable is not positioned perfectly. A converter from HDMI to VGA and audio may be what we have to do. When it does work, the Roku 3 is excellent. The headphone port on the remote is great. Also the remote doesn't need a line of sight so you can put the Roku behind the TV; helpful if you have a wall mount. It really could use an off button though. It stays on all day with a screensaver unless you pull the plug. I've heard the Roku 2 has less of a problem with the HDCP issue but it only does 720p.

Stunningly easy to set-up & use. Remote control uses RF instead of IR, so it doesn't need direct line-of-sight to function.

I was able to completely replace cable tv with my Roku. I haven't had any issues with it, and it is easy enough for my technologically uninclined partner and 5 year old daughter to use too.

A new way to watch movies and shows

We purchased our Roku 3 after buy our daughter the Apple TV. We are not Apple people so the Roku makes sense for us. It was very easy to install and interfaced very well with our universal remote. We enjoy many of the free Amazon movies and other shows which are available. The one thing we can not figure out is how to turn the unit off. Other than that we are sure as times goes by more features will be added. So far it has been worth the investment.

Great device with one annoying problem

The Roku 3 has been an excellent device overall. Setup was as easy as possible. Menu and remote navigation is a breeze. I love the headphone jack on the remote too. Streaming had been nearly flawless accept for issues with the PBS channel. The one glaring issue we have had has been a reoccuring "HDCP unauthorized content disabled" purple screen of death. This is a known issue with Roku and absolutely needs to be resolved. I have tried 4 different HDMI cables and eventually the purple screen eventually rears its ugly head. Requires a reset to work again, not the end of the world,but certainly annoying!

The no monthly bill alternative

We bought this a little while back and now that we have become familiar with it, I think we are ready to cut the cord to the satellite company. There is one show I can't find on here that I used to record and watch at night, perhaps I'll have to watch it on my laptop... and I can't believe I am doing this at the restart of Walking Dead's season 4, but I think I can purchase episodes of that on prime. much cheaper than $70/mo!

We bought a high end HD DVD player a few years ago which also had streaming features. Streaming speeds on it lately ranged from slow to stuck. The Roku is our go-to streaming player now, an inexpensive high quality viewing alternative.
