Love the savings!

After my cable company raised my rate twice last year I was looking for an alternative. I tried the "dish" companies but there are too many trees in my yard for them to work. Fortunately, I came across Roku on the internet, ordered one, and have never looked back! I'm saving over $100 a month, including a subscription to Hulu. I've already recommended Roku to my friends. I'm very happy with the box and the service.

Son bought this for me as a Christmas present. ROKU is great but also addictive. I do not watch cable TV anymore.

A Little Monster!!

The Roku 3 is surprisingly small in size, but packs a lot of entertainment in the box. My first concern was whether the video image quality would be worthwhile. It is -- it is a little "softer" than true HD, but I suspect that is due to the compression of the videos to make them streamable. Some small "artifacting" is visible from the compression as well, but barely noticeable while viewing programs. My second concern was whether the unit was powerful enough to properly stream feature-length videos. The answer is a resounding "YES!" The videos, and their audio tracks, flow through my HDTV as if they were on a DVD, satellite, or cable feed. I use Cablevision as my internet provider, and it works beautifully through my WiFi setup -- the Apple Extreme Base Station. Only on very, very rare occasions will I have to pause briefly for the Roku to load program data ( this seems to happen more with Amazon Prime than the other channels, and may be a factor of how busy the internet becomes at that time).
The Roku 3 has plenty of built-in programming "channels" such as NetFlix, Amazon, Red Box, YouTube, Pandora, and so on. The bulk of these channels are pay-per-month, and you will need to provide a credit card to Roku to make purchases to view that programming. Costs are very reasonable for most programming being $7-$8/month. Of course a lot of channels are free programming. If you want more channels that what are available pre-programmed, then Google for Roku channel lists, and you will find plenty of offerings to satisfy almost any viewer (I don't believe Apple TV can offer this capability to add channels).
I have Cablevision, and frequently find the programming to be very dated and repeated quite frequently on competing movie providers. I turn to Roku on an almost daily basis to find films to watch in lieu of usual cable fare. One drawback to the Roku's channel providers seems to be that there is a standard block on allowing programming just out on DVD to be streamed unless it is on a pay-per-view system. So far, there are enough videos to view that I don't mind waiting for the newer films to be released for streaming.

Was given to us by our son because we were unhappy with our cable provider. So far have only watched movies. I do miss some of my cable programs ie: Foodnetwork & Fox news.

We purchased the Roku because we were having trouble streaming Netflix on our old blueray player, we also had no way to stream Amazon Prime which we were paying for. We have been nothing by pleased with the Roku and it has been our primary form of watching TV since it came into our house.
We wish we could stream HBOGo, but that has to do with our cable provider and not the Roku.
