Great product

I've owned a Roku 3 now for a couple of months, and I love it. I no longer use anything else for entertainment needs (except a gaming console for games). I love the huge array of channels available. I love that you pay $99 once and that's it, no recurring fees. I love that most of the channels are free. I can find something on just about anything, at any time. So good. I was skeptical, but I'm a believer now.

Refurbished models may not be a bargain

I am steadily becoming more and more impressed with Roku.  The availability of free channels such as PBS, TED Talks, and radio programs like This American Life (via Newscaster) makes it quite the bargain.
But, I'm regretting having bought a *refurbished* Roku 3.  It's not been problematic enough to call it broken and send it back, but its wireless connectivity to both the network and the remote is a bit flakey.  This unit replaced a purple Roku (LT model) which didn't suffer from similar problems with connecting to the network, so presumably the problem isn't with the location, etc.  I can't say the same about connecting to the remote.  The purple Roku didn't have a bluetooth remote—which is why I upgraded to the model 3.
Speaking of which: the Roku bluetooth remote with headphone jack is “The Awesome”.  Seriously, whoever came up with that idea deserves a huge bonus.  I've got an XS model in the living room, and I may upgrade it too, just to get a headphone-enabled remote.  But, even without the headphone jack, the XS's bluetooth remote is distinctly better than the “old-fashioned” IR remotes that everything I have uses.  Why?  Because, for example, my DVR remote sometimes doesn't work as I expect because I put a bottle of water on the coffee table in the wrong spot.  I know, I know: that's such a first-world whine.  But still, a better technology exists!  Why is Roku the only one using it?

My only problem is that every few days we have to reset it.  And by the way, when setting it up we were told to "press the reset button."  We couldn't find the reset button but then discovered it was actually a hole that we had to insert a paper clip into to "press."

I just connected my Roku, had it for a few weeks. So far I'm looking it, lots of channels to choose from you cannot go wrong, I told my neighbor to buy one.

My husband and I really love our roku 3.  We now can get Blockbuster on Demand really easily.  We do want to find out how much it costs to view a public broadcasting program or movies on the roku movie and TV channel.

small box big promises

What I can watch and listen to streams nicely. Would like to have an extra sound output instead of just hdmi. It is unfortunate to have a box full of possibilities in Canada, with lots of US channels blocked. Would love to have more international content (the world is so much bigger then North-America).

Disappointed

I bought this primarily to be able to play the Plex app for streaming all of my mkv's. Unfortunately, it will not play about half of them because it does not support mpeg2. It also does not support most subtitles. I have about a 1000 movies and I'm not going to reencode 500 movies to better fit what the Roku should handle. It does great with other internet apps, but then again, so does my Tivo and my WDTV Live hub and my Xbox and my PS3. In other words, I didn't really need this since it can't support Plex very well.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
