Cutting the Cable

We're a family of four recently burdened with medical bills from cancer treatment followed by a job loss. We're movie lovers but going to the movies is too expensive now. The kids freaked out when we told them we had to cut cable tv out of the picture. BUT we got a Roku and it's been great. $100 at the store we bought it and it's saving us hundreds of dollars. Being able to watch things on our own schedules is great. It was meant to be a temporary fix, but even when we're back on our feet, we'll still be using our Roku!

This is the best purchase this year! It is better than Apple TV. I have both and prefer Roku.

Too many bugs!

I bought the Roku 3 about a month ago to use while riding my indoor bike trainer. The number 1 reason I got the Roku was for the remote control headphone option. This feature has not been great. The sound constantly cuts in and out and and there's a lot of static. It's very annoying to say the least. Also, there is something going on with the HDMI port. Every time I use my Roku I have to unplug and then plug in the HDMI cable, otherwise when I start a movie I will only hear sound and get a message saying something about unauthorized device. I've read on some forums that this may be caused by a cheap HDMI cable so I invested in an expensive cable only to have the same results. If it wasn't for these two issues, which for me are major, I would have given the Roku 5 stars because it's an (almost) awesome piece of technology.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought my Rocku 3 one month ago and today I only have one big problem... I cant apart my kids from my room! They are fascinated with all the different options that Rocku have to watch TV.

Superior Streamer

I have owned an Apple TV and a WDTV but the Roku 3 is actually the best streaming media player on the market. Unlike the ATV, it can stream almost any type of video file via the neat Plex channel. There's basically no start-up time between firing the Roku up and watching Netflix and I appreciate the addition of the Amazon Video channel. Cons include a tendency to get very hot when used and the fact that the unit's USB input is practically worthless. I'm holding on to my WDTV for local media files via USB but the Roku is getting used more and more at my house.

I have had my Roku player for about a year and a half. I love it! I cut the cord with cable and have never looked back! They continue to add additional channels, there is always something new!
