Small size, big versatility

I received this as a gift in Jan, 2013 after wanting one for a while. The size is great, as it takes up very little room. It offers a lot of channels and games, with the list increasing every day. You can even shop with the remote on some apps, such as HSN. While you don't need to have a paid subscription to watch TV shows or movies, you'll find it's really nice to watch the show you want (hulu Plus) or movie (vudu) with just a click and it's far less expensive than cable or satellite prices. The Roku is used on a TV with no service. Recently the local cable switched to boxes on all TV's. No more service with just a wall Coax.
The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because in about 3 weeks the headphone volume won't increase at all. It will mute, but stays at a VERY low volume. I can hardly hear it and my hearing is pretty good. The headphone capably was the selling point for me. But now it doesn't work (No rowdy kids, pets or rough handling. It just stopped working. A review I've read elsewhere, too.) So know that if you plan to get this for a home with rowdy kids or pets, you may want to invest in an extra remote.

We love the Roku 3. It's well-designed and intuitive. That's why it is so hard to believe that the remote fails regularly. We've reset it, re-linked it, changed the batteries, and followed every tip online, provided to all of us with this issue. The remote app for Iphone is a good substitute with more features, but still would rather use the remote, and we simply cannot.

I purchased my Roku almost two months ago. I enjoy it for many reasons including the ability to consolidate my favorite Apps on one device: Netflix, Hulu+, and Amazon Prime. However, the "five star" feature is the USB port. I connected a Mac HFS+ formatted 1TB WD Passport and was elated all my movies were easily found and playable.
While the Roku OS and ecosystem are innovative they are semi-intuitive. A highly intuitive device / ecosystem requires no additional instruction or research. My Roku 3 required a small learning curve aided Rokus online help. Apologies for the comparison but Roku is a distant second to Apple's seamless ness.
I have allowed content, USB connectivity, and an open Eco-system lift my Roku 3 to a four-star product. The actual Roku 3 is very well built and easy to install. First time set up is easy but could be better. It should be entirely self contained by eliminating all online requirements.
My biggest disappoint is the controller. It's plastic construction gives under mild pressure that creatives rubbing noises and squeaks. The "D-Pad" button is prone to depress too far within the device.
Bottom Line: The contoller does not reflect the Roku unit quality. Unfortunately, there is no Official Roku App for my iOS devices. And since the contoller is my main option, navigating and learning everything Roku has to offer is a mediocre experience.
My Roku 3 is a welcome edition and I recommend for its use of USB. However, the contoller introduces a plastic "spork" into a 4 diamond dining experience. I have reasearched if better controllers are available. Current iOS alternatives are functional but lack polish.

I got this as a gift from my daughter when I told her I wanted to cancel cable as the monopoly and horrible content for price made me an unhappy consumer. My Roku came in the mail and I was using it within a very short amount of time and I am so not a techy. I am amazed at the viewing selection that is available. I have not yet even started playing any games yet. I love it!

Lack of a better statement, I love it; sure is a welcome solution to the mess I had on dish network and it cost less.

I bought this two months ago but I do not enjoy the long break while retrieving sections of the movies and it seems all the free stations do this

This relatively simple and easy to use device offers access to programming and choices that rival those of large satellite and cable companies. I congratulate the designers and builders of the Roku 3.
