I bought the Roku 3 shortly after Christmas. It isn't quite as great as I thought it was going to be. Although there are many different channels, there isn't that much free content. Also, you have to physically browse each channel to find what you want to watch. I know they have a search, but I quickly found out that it only gives the results for those outside applications for which you have to sign up (ie Hulu plus, Nextflix etc...) For instance, the John Wayne movie "Angel and the Bad Man" was available for free on one of the Western Channels, yet when I searched for it, it only showed on the pay for channels. IF you already have Netflix, it is a great device to use and stream it to your TV, other than that, I don't see me using it for anything else much. I may still return it.

The Roku 3 was easy to set up and controls are easy to use. I am satisfied with the Roku 3, however, I have a problem. My cable service is a local independently owned and operated company, therefore, I am not able to access many free channels which requires a code from a carrier such as Comcast, At&t, etc. This is not a fault of Roku, but a misunderstanding on my part. If I had access to the free channels, I would be completely satisfied.

Got this for Christmas, and my wife and I love it! She's definitely not a tech person, and I'm not much better. We haven't even tried all the channels yet, but it works with Netflix really well. We also like using VEVO to throw on some music.

A compact device packed full of features

Several months ago, I purchased the Roku 3 and am very happy with the device. The interface is extremely user friendly and self explanatory. Set up (wireless) happened without a glitch. The device has never dropped the network connection. I liked Roku 3 so much, I purchased a second for another room. The HDMI out port can connect directly to your AV stereo receiver, stereo connected to TV. Your TV needs to have the ARC feature. Streaming 1080 with 5.1 Dolby digital sound. The only thing that I have any problems with is my Harmony 900 remote is fussy about communicating with the Roku sometimes. I believe there are two different technologies used in the Roku (bluetooth) and Logitech (IR). They do work together, but not as smoothly as other devices. With Roku and a digital broadcast antenna (for live local channels) I have dropped my TV cable, saving me over $1300 per year. Also, Ooma for free internet telephone (pay only a few dollars per month for taxes) works like a charm & cut off an additional $500 per year.

Overall, we are very happy with the Roku 3. The apps/channels work a lot faster and easier than the built in programs on our Sony Bluray and Bravia TV devices. Phone app (Android) streams my personal music flawlessly.
The built in headphones on the remote is awesome, as my wife always blasts the tv volume until now. Seriously, it solves a lot of issues with a napping infant nearby too.
Only real downside, the SlingPlayer app is pretty bad as it has to bounce off my phone. The playback quality is awful. It really needs a built in application, like the Boxee Box allows. In fact, if the SlingPlayer worked any better, I could finally ditch our Boxee for good and rate this device as near perfect.

Its the best deal going.... Love all the channels, music etc. etc. Worth the extra few bucks as compared to Chrome Cast.... although I would get one Roku for main TV and then Chrome cast for others...... Sorry if you didn't like last part Roku, but you did ask me to write review:)

The image on our TV is too large. We cannot see everything on the TV screen. At first it worked fine, but then about 3-4 weeks later it started to not work correctly.
