I was tired of paying too much for cable service and being dependant on the scheduled times of broadcasts. While not a big watcher of TV I do appreciate the variety that is available with the Roku. I expect more services and channels will be added in time and I look forward to that. Definitely worth the rather small invesment compared to the monthly cable expense!

I do understand it relies heavily on those who CREATE channels- I will say a "few" channels are quite interesting to toy around with, but to not have a reliable channel for NBC, CBS, and ABC.... well, there SHOULD be. And yes I understand about OTA antennas as well. I bought it hoping for a lot more, and can say it's been a nice addition to our bedroom, lol, but I am hoping for a huge improvement in the media player (ubs player) in making it a wee bit better developed media player, IE shuffle, and being able to do something besides just play things. If there were more channels out there besides cooking and religious which cable already does too much of a job with this would be closer to a five, I suppose it would be said that this player simply needs more content, and for a solution for the netflix app which has issues (not sure if it's netflix issue r roku), streaming 5.1... and the player cuts out for some reason at around 3 am during late night watching sessions. Like the title, it's OK but hoping it may one day SOON become much better. I ama saying I will recommend it as it is better than nothing but all the claims by reviewers that it can replace cable, uh, not going THERE yet.

Roku worked in spite of router problems.

When I first tried Roku,, I had problems because of a faulty router. Now that I have replaced the defective router, Roku has performed like a champ.

Works great as a HDMI streaming media server. My problem is my old TV only has a DVI input. A HDMI to DVI cable feeds the video but the audio has to come from the audio port on the remote. I have tried several HDMI to DVI + Audio adapters but none work. I believe the HDCP (copy protection) shuts the signal off if the Roku can not see the TV through the adapter. If you do not have a HDMI input on your TV I recommend that you purchase a different Roku.

Bought this about a month ago and one of the best purchases! I already feel like I got my money's worth in just one month. It's great that everything is all in one place. Only downfall is I wish that it would run wirelessly on all tv's instead of having to purchase one for each tv. one other thing i would change is to be able to search by genre.

My transition to IPTV has been made effortless by this effortless device. If you are a decent programmer you can notch yourself up quite a few levels on this device.
