Roku 3 - Ads not acceptable

Overall love the Roku, it delivers in all categories except one. I expect that when I pay for a product such as this and do not receive it free, I don't expect to have to consume advertisements, right in the main interface! For that reason I am rating it a one star, were it not for that it would be 5. As a matter of fact I am returning it.

This was a Christmas gift. I was initially over-joyed and excited to get started with the Roku and avoid a monthly cable bill. However, once I started to use the device I quickly realized very little was actually free and to take advantage of the movie/channel offerings, everything required a unique subscription as well as an additional monthly fee. There were lots of "free" options which seemed great but after checking them out, they either were infomercials for a paid offering or a few teasers to get you to sign up for the paid version. So unfortunately by the time you add up all the channel offerings you want, you end up paying more for each individual channel than a packaged deal from a cable vendor. I would not recommend going this route to avoid a cable provider.

Bought 2 Rokus.

Bought two Rokus. On one of them the power supply did not work on the other the remote will not sync up. I finally got one working with a comibination of the two Rokus sets. There is no Customer Service.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bought this to avoid monthly bills for cable/satellite, to supplement our antenna which gets "local" and PBS programs. Nice to have "free" viewing, although we did sign up for Netflix, in addition to getting DVD's w/ Netflix.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A friend recommended a Roku to me so I could watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. I was hesitant because hooking up electronics to my HDTV is always a hassle and I end up having to call someone to hook it up for me. I had it hooked up and was watching my favorites within 30 minutes! Very easy and I have been really enjoying all the diversity in television watching.
