My sons gave me the Roku for Christmas. We have never had this type device, I have nothing to compare it to but, we have been completely satisfied so far.

Disappointed in the quality of the video

I replaced a DVD player we used for streaming with the Roku 3 and the ease of use is great, but the quality of video is much worse than the device it replaced. The problem is with poor blacks, with shadows or artifacts of light areas being very prevalent. To be fair, my TV is 720p/1080i, which could be an issue, but it worked fine with the DVD player in the same role.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So simple

My son gave me the Roku as a gift. (I may have complained to him a few times about DVR issues and programming changes by the cable company). With the Roku I can watch my programs whenever I want to. It's so simple to hook up and easy to operate while offering lots of options. I'm glad that it's so small and doesn't use as much space many of the other electronic devices.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I got a Roku for Christmas this year, and I never could have imagined how happy I'd be to own one! I've never been big into electronics, and don't pay much attention. I tend to do things in an "old school" way. However, since getting a Roku, I very much appreciate it's features and what it allows me to do. I love watching movies/documentaries on NetFlix, which you can stream right onto your cTV with the Roku; even if you don't have cable. I don't have cable, and am perfectly content being able to access everything off of the Roku. There are so many cool and interesting programs on the Roku. I'm so happy that I was given this as a gift...it's opened me up to what the electronic world has to offer!

Wasn't worth it for us

We bought a Roku 3 over the holidays, and don't believe it lived up to the hype. The selections on Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime weren't appealing enough to justify the subscription prices. We went back to cable.

I just picked this up mainly to stream Amazon movies since my new kindle no longer has an hdmi output. It works great! Easy to use and much faster than my blue ray player. Highly recommended.
