A great piece of technology!

Our son bought us a Roku when we asked him to buy us a Smart TV. He said that this little box would make our TV the same as a smart TV. We love the features.

Great interface, but some channels don't work

This is the second set-top-box I have owned; I bought it to replace an aging Boxee-Box. Overall, I am much happier with the Roku. The interface is smoother, Netflix works much better, and I'm able to access Amazon Instant (which Boxee did not support). However, one of the main reasons I went with the Roku was to pick up HBOGo. I have an HBO subscription, but don't have a cable hookup in my basement, so I thought this would be an ideal solution. Unfortunately, through Comcast, HBOGo is not supported on Roku (even though it is supported on mobile devices and XBox360). It is disappointing that Roku has not negotiated with Comcast to get this clearly advertised feature available for all of its users (apparently DirectTV users suffer a similar fate). And there are other cable channels that have a similar deficit - the channel is offered through Roku, but not supported through the cable company.

I bought this a short time ago. I do not have a smart TV but I do have a slim line LED TV. With Roku a smart TV is an unnecessary expense.

Saved failing streaming experience

Being an avid Sony user, I came to know and experience that Netflix and Sony do not get along. As in, the Netflix service is run through a daunting Sony server prior to making its way to a Sony streaming device. I could not experience a full HD streaming experience with Netflix without constant re-setting of both router and my late model Sony blu-ray player. Enter Roku 3, my purple savior. Problem solved. And what a great unit. Best interface of any streaming device I have used (are you listening Sony, LG, Samsung?) The hype of the faster processor and 5 Ghz frequency has my Roku operating without a hiccup. I am blown away by the experience. I...who is less than easily impressed.
