So many ways to be entertained.

The Roku has been as excellent addition for our entertainment. The number of choices is overwhelming, to be entertained by. I have used the computer for entertainment with the internet, but it's now nice to watch many of the same programming on my main TV. Set up was a breeze as well as it's use. The only small issue I have is with Netflix and the use of 5.1 Dolby does not work. It seems to be an issue with this box and it's use with the latest version of Dolby 5.1. Not compatible with anything but the latest AVRs. Other companies streaming works with 5.1 Dolby.

I have had to do a hard reboot, that seems to be the only kind, 4 times. I was informed by the Roku support rep. that these problems; picture freeze, unresponsive remote, .... etc...could be the cause of speed variations from my ISP and/or WiFi lag between the Roku and the router, or content provider issues. Annoying, yes...but not a deal breaker. We'll see as time goes on. But right now I am pretty satisfied.

I have two other competing streaming devices. I prefer and recommend to my friends the Roku. It has many strengths. One of its biggest strengths is simplicity. It passes the so-called "grandma test." However for me the biggest selling point is content providers. No other device allows you to use the following services all on the same device (at no additional charge): Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, and Spotify. Not to mention all of the other great channels like the TWC channel which allows me to watch my Time Warner cable stations in any room without coax cable or cable box and Plex which allows me to access all of my home movies.

Roku Review

The unit is very solid. It streams the apps I need like Netflix, Redbox, Hulu Plus and Amazon. It streams them in HD. The unit is very small and is able for me to attach my external hard drive for streaming movies, photos, and music. I love that you can attach head phones to it, so you can crank up whatever you like without disturbing others. At less than $90, it's a good bargin. The only downfalls are some of the apps you have to pay for or jump through hoops to activate. Also, it doesn't turn off. I had it on top off another streamer and it got very, very hot. Now I have it tilted to air it out. The unit is great and easy to set up. It streams wirelessly, if needed, but I would encourage an ethernet to get a stronger stream. This is a great way to cut the cable and save $100 a month. It pays for itself quickly!

I bought an apple TV not too long ago to use with the rest of my apple stuff at home but unfortunately was not too happy with it. I bought Roku 3 and I must say it is amazing and i like it very much. There is one feature I really wanted to have is a DLNA client to stream from my DLNA server but that's fine, my TV already is a DLNA client.

Been using for a month. I use it mostly for Netflix and YouTube. It is fast, and it is intuitive. I also love the headphone jack in the remote. I wake up early and watch shows without waking my wife.

love the Roku except for the battery life of the remote. More info should be provided on how to extend the battery especially when headphones are used.
