Better than Apple TV !

Not enough disclosure about what internet speeds are required for optimal performance, which is a major disappointment. 2 or 3 of the movie services we subscribed to only after subscription did we learn we needed faster internet connection to watch movies in HD. Would be a better value if it gave access to cable channels, and not just pay per view movie banks.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought the Roku 3 as a Christmas gift for my wife and we both absolutely love it. It gets used nearly every day and has replaced my PS3 for streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime (since it's always on the Roku allows for much faster access). I really enjoy the free channels, especially the theme movie channels. For under $100, this is easily one of the best technology values on the market today. Maybe the only disappointment is that not all channels work if you're a DirecTV subscriber (HBO Go, Disney Channel, etc). If Roku and DirecTV come to an agreement in the coming months it would be fantastic.

We have been using our Roku about a month and are very happy with it. I enjoy plugging my earphones into the remote and being able to move about freely, knowing I am not missing anything when I go into the kitchen to get a snack, and that I am not disturbing my husband. Also love that I can turn on the closed captioning when I want. The remote is easy to use.
My only complaint is that turning on closed captioning for videos is not intuitive. I have figured out how to do it (once you are watching the video, hit the "pause" button and a new bar will appear at the bottom of the screen, click on it to turn on closed captioning for that video). If there is a more intuitive way, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Good: excellent picture quality and great content
Bad: Need to give them your visa# in order to setup device. You will need to have an AVR that has pass through HDMI in order to get 5.1 Dolby Digital.

The Roku box is great. I kind of wish we had one instead of the one smart TV we own. Great content. Very, very easy to set up. My only suggestion is to add a search for available channels. It is hard to find the channels except on the internet page. Maybe I will figure this out with more persistence. We enjoy playing our own media on the TV using the Roku Media Player. Thank you for really good product.

I bought my Roku a month or so ago.  There is a TON of free content.  That's the very good part of it.  The one shortfall is that I can't watch all the great content on my tablet or phone.  When I got the Roku, I thought I would be able to do that via my slingbox.  I found out yesterday that isn't the case.  That's really the only downside I have seen so far.  I really do enjoy my Roku and am even considering purchasing a second one for another room in my house.

I know Roku, for the most part, has no control over free channels; but seeing a few more of those would really rock. That being said, this is a fantastic device that keeps on amazing me day to day! I have already recommended it to many of my friends.
Can't quite afford a smart TV? GET A FREAKING ROKU!
